I talked to a guy from hpi that came into my work he said call hpi and explain you displeasure with the spur gear issue and the will send you some for free.

The new engine of the savage x is build with soft metal and cannot take the abuse that the previous took!! In SA thats the first thing we change and put back the ever lasting s-25 motor

I had upper A-arm pin come out on me over the weekend. That was fun to watch. The bumper mount had turned a little and the tab that held the pin in was not in position to do its only job. I got lucky in that didn't lose the pin or the dog bone so I was able to keep running. Ended up using tie raps to hold the bumper mounts in place to keep the pins in place.

Yea I had a lower pin come out on me. I was lucky to find it in the lawn, and that my dog bone stayed in, coulda lost that too. The pin pushed right through the holder on the skid plate. Maybe HPI should consider some e-cips for the hing pins, or maybe a design more like that of the Hellfire to hold them in.

Another warning to all new savage x owners the gear mesh of the motor and spur gear may not be set correctly from the factory. Mine lasted about 30ft after the break in. The LHS said they alone had seen 5 from their warehouse with that problem

Mine lasted barely though break in.

you know this how ? the new savage motor is a ported s-25 with a new crank and bottem finned case.

We tested the hardnes of the two motors the new motor is alot softer and thus damages much easier we replaced a few damaged motors of customers and are now selling the new savage with a difrent motor because of all this problems.

I too have an X and my spur gear stripped on the 2nd lap, and I was going medium speed. My local Hobby shop was on backorder for the X spur, so after a week I looked at the 25's manual and found the shaft was teh same as onthe X. So for about $10 I converted it over to the old 25 spur gear, which the shop has plenty of, and I ran like crazy this past weekend with no problems. My guess is the rubber part inbetween the inner plates must release more energy when it encounters some resistance and bang, there goes the gear. Only a guess tho.

hpi used an improper gauge to set the mesh at the factory.mine stripped rite after break in. bought a new spur and set mesh correctly and havent had a problem.

Well I had forgotten about the whole thing cause I haven't run the savage in a while, and I got an e-mail from the today finally, telling me to call them lol. So I called em and they are sending out a backplate, some screws, and even the rotostart gears since the got chipped becuase of it. At least they were happy to send out the parts no questions asked.

I also asked him in another e-mail if they have had a problem with these backplates and this is what he said,

We’ve had a few… nothing too major… yet!

Hey guys jsut an update,

I recived this today from HPI:

http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXDLN6&P=7

I had asked for some rotostart gears and I didn't get those, but o well, I guess that was kinda my own fault haha. I must say I am happy with HPI Support, that came with all the screws I lost and the backplate, and an extra one way too, can't complain.
