Is anyone having problems with the back plates on the engine being broken? Both a friend and myself have had the screws on the roto start back plate come out and when we pulled the engine out, the back plate that is between the engine and the roto start is broken. Of the three screw holes in mine, one was broken completly and one was cracked. The LHS says that mine engine was the third one they have seen with this problem.

Yes, finally someone else who had the problem happen to them too. i thought i was the only one! I have a savage 25, but i have the same backplate as you do. But all mine did was have the roto start screws come out.

How did the backplate crack? You must have let the screws get real loose and move around a lot to make that happen!

When you buy repalcement screws you HAVE to get 2.6x12. Those are the screws that go onto the the roto start. When i found out what happened 2 out of 3 screws were gone. So i had to order direct from HPI.

No other manufacturer makes this size so it really sucks. The good thing is you get 12 screws for the price of 6 from the other company's. ($2.99)

I own a Savage X and I have the exact same problem. Something must be up with them? I lost some screws so I pulled the engine and one corner of the backplate was broken. Right now my rotostart backplate is being held in by one screw lol.

ACSAVAGE, Duratrax makes some screws in that size I believe.

Thats exactly what happened to me, except my backplate didnt break. i have the updated 25 thats why. I heard that the xs backplates and possibly engines were made with defective metal.

It happens to polaris snowmobiles all the time. In 2004 or something thay had to recall all of their snowmobiles due to defective alluminum flywheels.

I have the savage 25 LE and the same thing happened to it except the backplate didn't break, just lost all the screws. Also ACSAVAGE, Team Associated makes that size screw, Can't tell you the part number though, threw the package away.

I didnt know that, my local hobby shop just ordered them from HPI. So now i have a ton of them.

same thing happend to me with my 25rtr.

lost a screw, and cracked one screw hole. i only noticed this when changing to pull start.

what I've done is use one of the longer screws that were on the roto (the pull start has shorter screws) and wedged it in there, havent had it come out yet.

When my screws came in it took to weeks, so i just bought 2.5x15 to substitute. They worked but i would rather have the right screws so i put those in when they got there. Luckily my plate or anything didnt crack. That would have been a nightmare with HPI taking 3 weeks to ship it to me!!!

Another warning to all new savage x owners the gear mesh of the motor and spur gear may not be set correctly from the factory. Mine lasted about 30ft after the break in. The LHS said they alone had seen 5 from their warehouse with that problem

well I just had the roto start problem too. My back plate snapped too. My LHS was great the gave me my new spur gear installed it for me. They even fixed my rotor start for free. Hopefully this will be the end of my problems.

i have also broke the backplate wherethe roto start screws onto. this seems to be a weak point. i wonder if hpi knows about this and will dosomthing to help us out ?

HPI should be fixing all of this for free. Even giving us new screws if we loose them because it is their fault that they dont use locktight or torque them right not ours!

i called them today with no luck....i wasn't gonna stay on the line being long distance till somone picked up so i left my info.

i also messed up the hex on a nubz rim do to the nut falling off. (all the axles are threaded the same unlike the stock savages). i doubt they will do anythign but whats the worste they can say ? no ?

I was thinking about e-mailing them. But that has never worked for me in the past...I think calling em and waiting is the best way to get through to them.
