I'm looking at getting a savage but am kinda tossed up between the savage x and savage x ss kit i would rather build my own but really want to know what the main differences are between these 2 i know the kit comes with no electronics. But i guess the main thing would be the engine and the other components of the trucks is one beefier than the other, more powerful a better deal or are they both pretty much the same exept the kit is minus the electronics? Possibly may even go with a older Revo any input?

A lot of us feel that the build is the best part of this hobby. If you're new to RC, it's the greatest way to learn and also the fastest. If you break something later on, you know exactly how to replace the part.
You also have the advantage of using a better radio and servos.

You may want to look and see if the X comes with the K4.6, if it does not then the difference is going to be in the motor; the X may come with the F4.6 and the SS kit may be the K4.6.

K 4.6 big thumbs up! I own a Savage Xss and love it. I appreciate even more because I built it myself. It's well worth the wait to play with them.

When I get a new savage it will be the SS kit, since I have taken mine apart so many times; would be no trouble to build one out of brand new parts.:D

I am going to disagree with rolex on this one. :whhooo:

If it is your first RC then get one thats ready to roll right out of the box. All you have to do is break it in, tune it and roll out.

A build from scratch can be a daunting task if you have never built one before. After repairing yours a few times THEN i would suggest getting a kit for your next vehicle. Also, if it is your first then you will be more likely to rush it and make mistakes.

I would also like to throw the savage XL into your options. I traded for one recently and that 5.9 has some serious power but its also pretty stingy on fuel IMO.

id have to agree with the first vehicle not being a kit... as mechanically inclined as i am being a ex mechanic... i am glad my first nitro was used and already ready to rock.

as when u get a new ride like this you dont wanna be building it and tinkering.. you just wanna let r rip..

now in rolex's defense, i am the first to admit, that tearing mine apart and upgrading /replacing parts now is just as enjoyable as driving it.

There is no arguing that point. It really is one of the best aspects of the hobby.

Glad to see this guy is looking at a savage as well. Most (myself included) start with a tmaxx, drop $800 into it before realizing its just a pile-o-poop and then get a savage.

This would make my 4th Nitro know my way around them pretty well disassembling and assembling is not a problem done it more time than i can count. Not a true "Newb" have years of experience just have been out of the hobby for a little more than 4 years just looking to get back in it

Savage X SS

Do the shocks and diffs come assembled? Not that is a big deal just hate messing with them

XSS kit is for you then. (Unless you wanna buy my XL for less than a new XSS)

Either way you can't beat a savage

Wish you would have said that about 1 hour earlier just bought a X SS off E-Bay....lol

You'll be quite happy with your purchase I'm sure. When your done with the build, you'll know your rig inside and out. Start a build thread once you start building it. That'll give the good folks here a chance to help you along if you hit a snag. And build threads are always interesting.:)

I built my XSS a few years back on a weekend in with nothing to do since we were in the middle of a Cat5 Typhoon. Power went out and I still pressed on with a flashlight...lol. I had a Savage 25 already at the time but I learned way more about the truck in the time I was building the kit than in the year and a half I had the 25.

Well it will be here friday probably built by Sunday and have to wait a while to run it dont really have any open space that doesn't have over a foot of snow on it and i really dont feel like cleaning salt outta everything from driving it in a parking lot. So I'm waiting with the radio gear so i dont get the erg to take it out...lol

to get a good break in it needs to be warm. i would wait until the weather fairs up abit before takin it out. You run the risk of damage or bad break in if its freezing outside.

Well right now its about 10-15 during the day and well below zero at light if i were to break it in i would do it on the bench and route the exhaust out the window through adequate size hose too still let the motor run to its potential....I have had to due this in the past while i was in a pinch and that same engine is still running strong today almost 4 years later

It's your engine, but I sure as heck wouldn't do that. Your truck won't go very good in a foot of snow anyways, so why not wait and do it right?
