I've seen many posts on various forums of problems with the HPI S-25 in the Savage SS and .25 RTR. Problems include engines damaging cranks and pistons on several tanks of fuel, very lean running and high heat temps.

If you haven't already heard, HPI has let us know that there is an issue with the backplate on these engines. The screws have not been torqued and locked down properly when they were assembled at the factory. Here is a post on HPI's forum that addresses this and it tells you what to do to fix it. I just did it on my SS and I could not believe how easy the bolts came out of the backplate. You MUST do this unless you have one of the updated kits. My Savage 25 RTR is en route from Tower Hobbies....thanks for the heads up bro and hopefully I have a red X on my box!!!

Peace

will there be any sort of reembersement from HPI if there was damage that occured before this update, I was running hot and leaking oil everywhere a few weeks back and now I'm thinking that the engine is damaged or just plain toast.

This is what you call a little phuck up on HPI's part that causes big problems. I hope they'll take care of everyone as it's their bad.

Peace

yea i found out about that the first week the savage ss what out. lol it sucked having that much downtime

I just went through the procedure. My temps were consistently around 300. I ran after and still have high temps, but it was only one run. We'll see after a couple more runs. My screws were backed out all the way to the pull start housing.

One question, do I need to replace the grease that leaked out? If so, what do I use?
