Hey Guys i was recently givin a savage ss 4.6. It didnt have a controller with it, so i was gonna use a controller from my Cen Gst 7.7. But i went to change the crystals in the truck and couldnt find one. It looks as though someone swapped it with a different receiver and i can't figure out how to use it.It is a JR RS 300 Synthesized channel Selection FM Receiver. Any ideas?

Looks like it. I know nothing about them to be honest, just googled what was provided. There are tons of affordable radio systems so replacing it completely should cost you $100 or less but id price a replacement TX before jumping fo any decisions.

Most likely they used a single radio and bought the extra receiver for the second vehicle. Thats my guess.

Ah yes, but which does he have, a savage or a radio? Honesty not knowing if it was oem, i would have done the same in order to target the people knowledgeable on the platform i had questions about.

Ok lets talk about your receiver (that is in your SAVAGE) so we are keeping on topic in the section...lol. Anyway it is made by JR and it is FM. So with FM radio systems they are not all the same, just because you have a radio that is say 27.145mhz and a receiver on the same Freq, it does not mean they will work with each other. I will explain further.... in the FM radio frequency band you have two main transmission methods which is known as Negative shift (Futaba and Hitec) and Positive shift (JR, Airtronics and KoPo). A positive shift controller will not work with a negative shift receiver and vise-versa. So if you plan on using that receiver you must buy a control that is also a positive shift as noted above. However personally I would just sell the receiver and use the money for something you can use unless you have to have a radio that wil work with it.

Ok. So The SAVAGE (thats why i posted in the SAVAGE forum) was given to me off a guys shelve that had been sitting there for a couple years. It was his sons and had no idea about the truck or the where abouts of the controller. Me being kinda new to the rc world figured if it was an original item i would just buy the original controler for the truck. But because its not u recomend i buy a whole reciever and transmitter with the crystals, or buy the synthesized transmitter? Thanks to all that helped. Oh and also noticed that thereceiver i have is not the same as in the link above, mine actually has two dials, whats the deal with that?

Did you find a price on the replacement radio? Did you ask the guy if remembers seeing it somewhere? Me personally, I'd just get a new radio/receiver set. You can get a decent 2.4ghz set for under $100.

ya like i said it was his sons and hes not around so they have no idea. I see a HPI 2.4GHZ DSSS TF-20U Recever and Transmitter with failsafe for $35. Good Deal it seems? Do they use the crystals?

mine actually has two dials, whats the deal with that?

The two dials are to set the frequency of the receiver. The JR XS3 was the model radio that utilized and came with the JR300 receivers. The 300 was the earlier larger version, later they switched to the 310 which is a much smaller receiver. A synthesized radio has 30 fm channels and requires no crystals, however you need to dial in the number of the channel on those dials, say for instance you want to run on channel 69, you would turn the first dial to 6 and the second to 9 to set the channel.

No problem, happy to help.

Switching over to a new radio system and having to put new receivers in all my rigs is not financially in the cards for me right now, so I have been using the XS3 and those receivers in all my cars for years now, and have had no problems. Sure, it's not the latest and greatest technology now, but it works for me. If you only have one rig at the moment, but plan to add more, now is the time to do it, before you tie up more money in an older radio system and older receivers.

I know that, I was explaining the receiver he has now, and telling him to go 2.4 now before adding any new rigs. I did all mine years ago, before 2.4 was an option, and synth was the way to go.
