hello i have been thinking of getting a savage so i will have more then one truck for when i break one and i know i want a kit.. now i have a couple questions and i know NOTHING about the savage but here they are:
i was thinking about the
HPI Savage X SS Kit w/o Engine is The savage to buy? is there any thing i should know?

also i was thinking about the OS 30vg pull start version its a 250$ engine and the 21 from OS is 150$ what should i get because i would like to stick with OS engine.

now about the exhaust that comes with the kit how is it with the engine i should buy meaning what ever engine you all recommend.

now my last question is a 985 Hitec servo ok for steering and a 645 ok for throttle and brake?

oh and i am strictly a basher that likes to go fast... any ways what kinda of speeds would i be seeing out of this?

Pretty much, you've got the right ideas all the way around. I'd go the OS 30, of the two. The hitecs you have picked out should be more than enough muscle to heft the tires around, and drag it to a stop.

The only thing I would change is the exhaust pipe, from the stock plastic one to either the Hotbodies or the HPI polished pipe. They're a direct replacement for the plastic pipe; no additional parts needed in that department.

You may also want to consider a decent rechargeable battery pack for the truck; Fasteddy carries some good ones at a great price. You also may want to consider one of his screw kits. You might also want to look into a failsafe, too.

The only other hopups I would recommend are the 3 speed, and maybe the reverse module. If you're even remotely considering them, now is the time to get them, since you have to take the transmission case completely out of the truck.

If you get the reverse module, you may want to consider a 3 channel radio. You will also need a third servo; it doesn't have to be very powerful or fast. A hitec 303 will be MORE than enough servo for this job.

You should see some rather ballistic speeds with this truck, with the 30 in it. You may wish to order some spare spur gears, just to be on the safe side.

Other than that, you'll enjoy it alot; I have an older Savage .25 that's kind of a mutant hybrid with an X. I run that truck alot.

thank you very much! sounds great!! I'm not arguing with what you said just wondering one more thing. i have read in a couple places that it comes with a plastic pipe and on tower hobbies it says this: Exhaust: Dual chamber polished aluminum tuned pipe with header i am confused at what it comes with but thanks for all your help every thing you said i will do!

ok maybe just one more question. what kind of rechargeable battery pack should i get? tower says 6V 5cell hump so would this pack:http://www.teamfasteddy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_29&products_id=121
be a good one to get? what charger should i get to charge this pack(or the one you recommend) i dont want to spend a ton on the charger but i want it to be decent.

The pipe that comes on the X SS is a polished aluminum dual chamber pipe, and is a fine pipe, you won't need to replace it.

The OS .30 will be a great engine for that truck. Sounds like you have some good servos picked out as well.

The pack you linked to should be just fine...someone else will know better about chargers though.

I would recommend getting an AC/DC PEAK charger that has adjustable charge rates. They're not bad pricey, starting at $50, but well worth it in my opinion.
I use the Triton charger from Great Planes, it charges all the battery packs I use in my cars, trucks, and heli's. (TX packs, RX packs, li-po's, stick packs, etc.)

Well, you could use the wall-wart style charger to charge the receiver pack. However, I use a Novak Millennium charger (discontinued). The Triton should be more than effective for your needs.

If it comes with the aluminum pipe in the box, you shouldn't need to worry about upgrading it.

The pack you linked on fasteddys' site is perfect. Any other style won't fit.

THANKS EVERY ONE!! I think thats all my questions for now thank you all!

ok couple more questions now.
if i am running OS 30VG what percent nitro should i use for all around general bashing? but still having good performance i should probably just go with 20% right?

what is a good glow plug to use with a OS 30VG with O'Donnell's 20% or 30%? (depending on what the answer to the last question was)

On web sites where they sell savage x parts is that the same as the savage x ss?

is there a clutch and fly wheel that comes with the savage x ss kit W/O engine?

if the answer to to last question is yes will that clutch fit onto the os30 vg with no mods or should i hop up the clutch as well? Thanks!!

also if there is any thing else i should know about this kit like weak spots it would be great to know in advance!

i put a os 30 in my friends savage it it fit fine with the stock clutch just a shim or two more to take out the play in the clutch. 20 percent is fine for bashing and not sure if the x comes with the steel spur, if not get it.

oh and as for exhaust pipe how loud is the stock polished alum one? i want the loudest pipe possible but still gaining as much performance as possible.
and what shock oil and diff oil should i buy for off road grass and dirt bishign and big air jumps? and what springs? bare with me here i know nothing about savage(I'm trying to learn:))

Stick with the stock plastic spur; it provides a cheap easy to replace 'break point'. With that 30, you'll need it. Just make sure your mesh is set correctly.

As for pipes, the HPI ribbed pipe is about as loud as it gets.

I use 35wt oil in the shocks with the stock springs.

Diff oil, I run 1,000WT in front and rear.

it comes stock with the metal spur but i will buy a plastic one if i can find one will this one fit?http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJLH5&P=7 it says for savage 25 but its the only plastic 47tooth i can find(47tooth is stock so thats the one i u=think i should stick with for now). wow only 35w shock and 1,000 diff?! revo comes stock with 30,000 and I'm running 60w I'm my revo shocks wow that seems low but that is what i am going to do you know best! thanks!!!
will this mod:https://www.rcnitrotalk.com/100/savage-linkage-mod/ work with the savage x ss?
this is the newest savage correct?

That linkage mod will work, and is highly recommended. If it comes with the steel spur, I'd stick with that. And the X spur is different from the Savage 25 spur. It's part number is 77094.

The shock oil sounds light, but when you add up the 8 shocks total, it balances out. Same with the diff oil; it allows for maximum turning radius.

lol your insane man is there any question you dont know the answer to?! thank you very much for all your help answering my stupid questions!!!!

Tis no problem. And there's no such thing as a stupid question... Well, unless that question doesn't make sense, lol.

lol I'm sure a lot of my questions fall into that category but i try to ask and explain them as best as possible and i appreciate your and every one else's help!

ok my last questions and i think I'm all set.

what glow plug should i use with 20% O'Donnell's in a OS 30VG?i would like to stick with mc coy if theres any that are right because I've had good luck with them in my revo.

what wall charger should i use to charge this battery?:http://www.teamfasteddy.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&cPath=15_29&products_id=121
(the triton says it need 12v battery)
what are the most broken parts on the truck? just so i can consider buying a few extra just to have handy.

On web sites if they say the part is for the Savage X, then it will fit on the X SS. The two are the same exact truck, just the X SS has some hop ups on it already.

As for a McCoy, you're going to want a cold or medium temp plug, a McCoy MC-9 should work for you.

As I said I don't know a lot about chargers, but this wall charger should charge. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXHCF1&P=M

Lets see the most broken part...for me was actually spur gears and fuel tanks lol. I broke three tanks somehow. Over all the time I had a savage I broke one suspension arm and one upright.

GREAT! thanks i seen a mod that is supposed to help keep from breaking fuel tanks and i am buying rpm arms as back up and i will order a couple extra plastic spurs encase my metal one breaks( but if it breaks i think the spur will be the least of my worries!) and thanks for your suggestion about chargers i will keep that one in mind but if any one else has any other suggestions that would be great to! thanks again!

i thought of more questions.. go figure! i try to figure these out for my self but i don't want to mess up so here they are.
what about servo horns? i am using hitec servos so will i need different servo horns or does the kit come with what i need?

with the 35WT oil that heart break suggested should i buy some different springs for high jumps?

The kit should come with the horns you need. If not, some horns will come with the servo that you could use, but its easier to use the ones with the kit.

The springs that come with the kit are just fine, you can get 15+ feet of air without bottoming out with the stock springs.

Oh, and another charger you could look at is the charger that comes with the Revo...thats a much better charger than the other one I linked you to. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMAD6&P=ML It also chargers 7.2v stick packs in case you want to use roto start.
