Hey all, I'm pretty new to the game recently got myself a few savages. The one is badass runs like a charm. The other one which I have not actually tried to fire up yet has a problem. When it is on the ground I can roll it forward but when i roll it backwards I can hear and feel a gear grinding. I can't pinpoint what is actually grinding but if anyone can help me out it would be much appreciated. I think it is a 3 speed transmission aswell not sure if that has anything to do with it

Firstly check that the spur gear is meshed right. Could be that. Then may want to check your front and rear diffs. Which model savages are they? If you have the savage X with the easy access diffs its a piece of cake. If you have the earlier 25 a little more work is needed. Could also be the clutch. Does it have reverse?

I'm pretty sure it was the spur gear mesh was too tight took engine off and it rolls smooth. Also I can spin spur gear now and it is smooth also the gear that meshes with spur gear spins smooth
