I don't know too much about the Savage except people swear they are the toughest kid on the block. I am looking for a 100% basher. My question to you Savage peeps is which Savage model is the best bang for the buck? I know there are several different Savages, just not sure which ones are better then the others. Thanks.

The savage X 4.6 is the newest, and as far as I know, the baddest, tuffest, and fastest one you can get RTR. But in kit form, the X SS would be my choice.

If you want to spend a little more, and want a bigger truck They now have a savage XL, but I can't speak for it, because I've never seen it up close.

Savage XL comes wit a 5.9 cc and 3 speed tranny... i never seen one either but that combo prolly makes it the fastest ... even tho it is bigger

lol i jusdt got the 4.6 2 weeks ago and I'm having a blast bashing! It like NEVER BREAK with all thats it gone threw wow it tough

the SS kits normaly come with a few hoppups over the rtr rigs. if yuo have the time i would go with the SS i have never checked out the xl but the others are basicaly the same trucks with a few mods. I've had a .21 a .25 and the x. they are by far the toughest rig i have ever owned.

Unless you shop eBay or your LHS has some old stock, the Savage X is it. The SS is a kit, which is good if you like to build things but you have to buy a radio and servos seperate. It also lets know how everything goes together for quicker repairs when you break something(you will break stuff sooner or later). If you want to get right to bashing and learn the repairs as you go, the ready to run truck will do fine.

The early Savage 21 had some weak points, the 25 fixed some of them, the X is the best yet out of the box, the XL is new on the market so we'll have to see some reviews on them. Hope that helps.

Yeah, that all helps. I am interested in the Savage but still exploring some other options too. Savage does sound like a winner though.

I think it will be between a Savage X and LST2. Just depends on which one I can get a better deal on.

Buy a roller off of ebay and use the extra money for hop ups. You'll replace most parts anyway. I have a box full of slightly used 4.6 parts. lol

Any new Savage X/XL is tough as nails, so enjoy whatever you end up with.

you say the 21 had some weak points where are you speaking of? i have a 21 that i have thrown a axial .28 and the 3 speed trans and it worked fine till one day the spur gear freaked but that is on another post. but the 21 seems like it is pretty strong it has taken some hits and i have yet to break anything.

i have recently picked up the XL, and can't tell you how much i like this truck... new to RC and from the pic below it shows!!!! LOL

It can fly, yet i can't land it .... nothing broken!!!!

Thats not saying much, ITS A SAVAGE!!! I can't land either and my tmaxx did alright, I hope my soon to be savage will be fine when it gets to be like this guy's head.

The savage has some annoyances (be it 21 through X versions). Nothing a bit of upgrading can't cure. Axle carriers, chassis plates, engine plate, turnbuckles, center axles are the key points that gave me issues. Diffs have been worked out though I believe in the later models. The earlier models were weak.

The LST2 has some weak points. The arms, chassis rails, front turnbuckles, engine chassis brace and front axle carriers tend to break. Also, no roll bar. These are all fixable items, but just keep it in mind when doing the decision making to take the extra $ into account.

I've had many trucks over the years and the aftershock is by far my favorite for general handling, working on it, strength (with a few key hopups). Every time I drive it, I get a grin ear to ear.

MT's I've had: savage 21 heavily upgraded, t-maxx 21 heavily upgraded, t-maxx 2.5 heavily upgraded, xtm mammoth ST mildly upgraded, aftershock heavily upgraded.

The new MGT's are really catching my eye though... the 3.0 and the 5.0 both look like nice rigs. The 5.0 looks like a real beast whereas the 3.0 looks like a maxx killer.

some reason, can't get the pic to show... sorry

That photo sure looks like somethings bent or broke! It's amazing what these trucks can go through and not break. It's equally amazing the things that do break them sometimes...

Drove away..... not entirely true.... I had to get it back onto its four wheels!!! LOL

Only issues I've had with this truck so far is that screws keep falling out !!! That's my own fault for not going over it before going out and making sure they were tight and applying some trusty locktight.... Oh and the mod I had to do to make the cooling head guard fit ... see the post I put up for that one
