Hey i was just getting ready to tear my savage 25 apart i am wondering what is one of the faster(nicer) engines i can go with when i rebuild?

also any other recemondations since i will have it torn apart to go ahead and upgrade now while its a part?

The picco 28 or LRP28S3 are both engines that get used a lot in savage's and LST's. The picco has a bit more power and RPM's than the LRP, but it's also a bit more expensive.

I run the LRP in my aftershock and savage. Good engine with the right pipe. With the HPI polished pipe, mine ran weird, so I got a losi HT pipe for both rigs and it made the mid-range tuning much cleaner than the HPI polished pipe I was running.
 
Yea i have a OFNA .26 sitting from one of my friends gave me figured that would be better then the stock motor--- the .28 will fly I'm guessing ?

I'm not an axial fan... so I'd go picco .26 or losi M26. Never had a picco, but people that do really like them. I've had the M26. Plenty of power for a basher savage. It really likes the HPI polished pipe. Ran one on my aftershock (which had the M26 stock) and it really opened the engine up.

The Ofna Force .26 blows monkeys, no power at all. It's slower than the .25 is, plus it runs hot.
The LRP or Picco are the two best choices. Both are very hard on the truck though.
I don't like Axial either. CHEAP POOR QUALITY engine.
 
Agreed, the M26SS is a good mill. It makes great power, but I can't stand the al. carbs with no heatshield. If the engine hits 250F, it's going to vaporlock until it cools down.
Mach 427 is the perfect basher mill. Just enough bottom end to pull wheelies and it has more top end than most .28 engines do.

As long as you don't stall them or run empty, you can run them all day. ;)

I know what you mean though. One dry tank means your waiting a bit before it will start up. Although, I've found holding the throttle WOT while quickly ripping the cord usually gets them going pretty quickly.
 
I plugged the exhaust so the fuel had no choice, it was going in the carb.
 
this may be a stupid question, but when you say mach 427, are you talking about losi 427, or dynamite mach 427? or are they the same thing? just wondering, thanks
 
There are two, green/grey and gold. Gold is all dynamite. Green/grey is mostly dynamite and the rest Losi. Has a larger carb venturi which gives it a bit more torque and peak RPM.

Both are pretty decent engines and get good fuel mileage.

Then there's the M26SS, which is more losi than Dynamite:

Less power and RPM's than the other two. But all in all, not a bad engine either if your looking to save a few bucks. Threw my aftershock around pretty well once I downsized the tires. Had enough RPM's to keep you neck and neck with stock LST2's (with a non-aftershock pipe and gear flip in the trans).

It doesn't seem horizon lists the gold one anymore.
 
Losi=Dynamite the 427 is the same internally. They are made by the same company, SH engines.
The XTM 24.7 and SH .25 are two more choices I forgot to mention plus they fit better in a Savage. E-Bay and www.hobbypeople.net has them.
