Sup everyone,
I looked around on this site but I couldnt really find answers to this paticular question.
I'm new to the site as you can see and pretty much new to MT's(less than a month). Well, I need some advice from some actual users on these certain engines that I'm, gonna buying this weekend. But first, here's the story: Every Sunday afternoon at the local college's field & parkin lot, quite a few folks run & race their Nitros. From Menaces and serpents to Savages, Maxxes, monter GTs, and this one guy has a buggy. Okay, there's this guy with a Mammoth...I WANT TO BEAT HIM. From the line and on. True enough we would run out of range before we'd actually get to some serious speed but, as far as about maybe the 50 or so yds we run...I don't want this guy to ever get on the side of me. This race is takin place on the pavement(if that matters any). And the Mammoth is stock. And I have stock savage, and was thinking on gettin an SS kit next payday.
I've narrowed down the best to my knowledge that would be decent on my tuning ability(rook of course) and reliability. So my question to the vets & expirienced is: Which one of these engines would help me achieve my goal?
Fantom .27 or the XTM 24.7 Pro

I'm also getting the Motorsaver and a tuned pipe when I go to buy the engine.
I appreciate any feedback on this---thanx!

dude where you live? but anywayz.... dont go anywhere near that xtm motor crappy! the fantom is alright but if u want something with some SERIOUS power you most definatly wantt the OFNA PICCO .26!!!! :boxing: thats the toughest engine out there you will wheelie off the line and wheelie if your rolling at 20mph and in the long run you should destroy that XTM POS!!!!! SAVAGES ROCK!!!!!!

Out of the hundreds of posts I've read about the XTM 24.7, it's not a bad engine... especially for the $. Lots of low end. This would allow you to gear it pretty tall and still get a hell of a hole shot, then when second kicks in, it would have enough torque to take it up to speed pretty quick.

I've downloaded quite a few movies of guys runing the 24.7 and it really rips

I think Team17 runs the Mammoth. If it is a mammoth, I remember watching him run it. That thing's a monster, takes turns a little wider than most but well balanced.

You might also consider the Team Orion Wasp .28 and the soon to be realease (from what i know) Peak Racing Diablo .28

I don't know anything about either engine tuning wise, but i can tell you that i'll eventually be buy the Peak Racing Diablo .28 for my .21 rs4 2 project car

I would recommend taking a look at the Wasp .28. I just finished shopping around for a new engine. I wanted to find the best I could for under $200. Out of everything that I came across, the wasp looked best (spec wise & price wise). The Diablo .28 looked exactly the same as the wasp, however it was $10 more. Since I trust Team Orion more than Peak Racing, I went w/ the Wasp .28 Plus, I scooped it from tower for $170 - $15 + Free shipping = $155 Total (which is a killer price).

Here are some specs I have accumulated while I was shopping around. They might help you decide on what you want to get.

I'm considering the SH 28 Pro, its not out yet. I believe its supposed to have 3.5hp which is freaking insane, its priced at $190, down side is the 28k rpm but I imagine with that kind on power the sav could be geared pretty tall to get the speed which would also help keep the front end down, I read somewhere SH makes the XTM which is supposed to be a reliable mill, any opinions on SH out there?

SH 28 Pro $190
Cublic cpapcity: 4.59 cc
Bore: 18.50 mm
Stroke: 17.00 mm
R.P.M : 28000
Power: 3.5/28000
Weight: 410 g

Oh ok,
Hey thanx everybody and big ups for that chart, Digital. That helped me out real good. So is that Wasp .28 easy to tune? Because, I'm still learnin and experimentin n stuff.

I love the 24/7. Got the x-term. The engine always amazes me at the power it has. Had a problem with the low speed needle when I first got it, but a friend of mine tuned it and it screams now.
It'll run circles around the S-25 that comes in the Savage.
I've got the regular($99 on sale now). Supposed to be making 2.6 HP @28,000rpm. The pro is $179. Don't write XTM off. For the price and the support you can't beat em. After all that is what you are trying to beat.

Good luck.

Lol, oh no I haven't written XTM off, I just added the Wasp into consideration. And you're right-that IS who I want to beat. I have got to represent out there on sunday man, lol. Its only 2 Savs there that I truly know of, mine and my friend's. And he's been running his serpent more now than the Sav. I just need something thats reliable and pretty decent to tune that will whoop that Mammoth!

I disagree with drkspid4, I have the XTM 24.7 and it has insane power. The SH .28 should be and insane mill, SH makes XTM engines and the .28 will basically be an even more torquey engine than the 24.7. Definetely worth a look IMO.

I have some extensive experience with XTM engines now.

They are easy to tune and produce more power than you would think for there size (even the XTM .18)

I would suggest XTM on their customer service alone. They support their customers 100% and if it's even a doubt as to wether or not it's their fault, they will replace it free of charge.

Tunning
Power
and customer support 100% of my vote :D

Couldn't agree more lykan. I never got an e-mail from Tower confirming that my order had been delivered and if I had any problems..... The steering servo crapped out on my X-term. As with all of the RTR's it was weak to start with. When I sent it back they sent me a $40 servo to replace it. No questions asked!! You can't beat their customer service.

The 24/7 in my buggy always runs great. The car is tough as nails. Bought the X-cell for the kid. I won't run it. (Told him if it broke, he fixed it) The .18 in it has been easy to tune though.

I've heard that it takes longer to break in those engines compare to the S-25. If you gear it right, should have good button end and decide top end. I went with a 13 cb and 52 spur, and I like that set up. With all nitro engines it does take time to learn to tune them and get them running tip top. The trick is not to take the engine to lean as it will eventually take out the piston/sleeve and then you have to start from square one. Thought that I would mention that as no one has said anything about that. What I have learn and heard that one has to do a heat cycle and could take up to 1/2 gallon or more to break in correctly. I my thought and opinion and Good Luck in the races.
