Well hm


lookin for as much help as i can get

my friend has got a savage x. bought it in he ss form.

i put the truck together, i work on it weekly, so i know it like the back of my hand.

how ever. we are having a BIG brake problem. :angry:


He'll end up ripping one of the soft sticky pads off of one of the metal pads/shoes.

so then all brakes will be lost, so i tear it down, clean and re attach a new pad, same thing happends. this time i shoe gooed the old ones back on. which, they are holding up alot better.

but now, and this isnt the first itme this has happend.
the brake assembly will be intact, but there wont be any brakes at all. the brake cam and lever will be actuating all the way, the lever will be straight with the brake linkage.





the only thing i can think of is that the 2 long screws, going into the tranny case. keep pulling out, as if the holes are toast.

now, i have not striped these holes, i have had no reason to fully tighten down the brakes, as you dont do that anyways.

but has anyone else had any problems?

also, when he turns, the brakes lock up. he has to give it 1/4 or so throttle a couple of times for it to break loose.

tranny case replacement? if this is what is needed.

I'm going to try 2 of my screws from my revo which are a diferant thread and are a bit longer.

Z400,

On my Savage I had I started with the Hot Bodies brake pads and wasn't to pleased with the overall performance and ending up switching to the Crazy Nut Racing dual brake kits and liked them much better. I've done the same with my Associated MGT.

Something to check out!

I'm just unsure.


because when we first install them, after re building the assembly. they work great.
bu then within a tank or 2...

theres nuthing.


you can see them working.
but the pistin just extends, and the brakes dont tighten up.

I'm almost certain its the screw holes.
next step is gonna be Jb weld, and then if that doesn't work, a new Tranny case.

and those brake set ups look like a great hop up anyways so why not.

Hey, I've just finished buidling my Savage x ss and have ran 2 tanks of fuel through it. Tomorrow ill be doing the next break in stage and will be driving it around, however, I'm concerned about the brakes, when i pull the brakes on it doesn't seem to do anything, the disks dont seem to move enough to stop the wheels spinning, it sounds similar to the problem your having(or had) Z400. did you manage to fix it, or does anyone know what could be wrong?
also, how easy should the pull start be to pull, it seems pretty tough and jerky at times, like the engines flooded, but it seems to be working, i dont know how much force is needed without it being dangerous, maybe it will ease up after being used a bit more? When i pull the starter cord without the glow plug in, it moves very easily and smoothly,, should it be this smooth with the glow plug in when starting the engine?

If your breaking in an engine, they tend to be tough to pull when new.

I prefer non-metal brake disks. They are less prone to binding and have caused less issues for me. I go with CF or some sort of composite. Granted, they don't stop as hard as steel with pads, but they do slow it down good. With a high torque t/b servo, it counters the less aggressive brakes, but then you get the best of both worlds. Solid breaks and problem free for quite a long time.
