Found one on craigslist. He's asking 220 obo for it. Says it just needs a glow plug. I'm going to see how low he'll go for it. Was planning on taking my tool box and extra plugs if I go to check it out. I know a used nitro is a scary thing but what do you guys think?

Meet him with a glow plug and ask him to run it. A quick visual inspection tells a lot about the life its had

Just spoke with him. He's only ran 4 tanks thru it but says he doesn't have time any more. That scares me. After 1 tank I was hooked and haven't stopped since. I asked if I brought the glow plug could he start it. He said no because he doesn't have the roto start. Also it's a savage ss. So far I'm not trusting the deal

Some people think nitro is plug and play like electric and they get burned out trying to tune it. If its close then I would take a look at it. Even if the mill is trashed, I would pay 150 for a solid roller.

It wouldn't hurt to check it out. If you can't run the engine, at least turn it over by hand to check the compression. You will be able to tell if he only ran four tanks through it, there should barely be a scratch on the truck

Id go for it, I mean I agree that even if the motor is done the roller is worth it. How does he not have a roto start when he just bought it?

That's what I don't get. Says he just had it running a month or two ago. A month or two ago we were looking at 15 degree temps. So I figured he probably killed the engine. As for his for tank comment the pic shows a beat up truck. Waiting to hear back from him. I might of pissed him off. He agreed to 150 then a 1/2 later texted me asking for 200. I responded with 140. Haven't heard back yet. Lol

Or if you have his email you can sign him up on some distribution lists

If it is the original SS then it is essentially a 25 Savage which is an older model. If it is the XSS then it was a kit and he would have had to build it. If he will not let you try to run it then I would not trust it at all. I would walk away if it was me.

If it looks beat up then its got more than 4 tanks through it and if he only had it 4 tanks then one would think he would have a way to start it. Id stay away from it.

Definitely a crap shoot IMHO. I took a gamble on a used savage .25 over the summer for my daughter. Everyhing is checking out so far but it needed some serious tlc. If you can turn the motor over by hand and it's complete minus the roto start then 150 would be my max on it. I also have a roto start available if need be.

That's a link to the ad. If you guys wouldn't mind taking a look to see what truck it is. He says it's 6 months old. As of now I'm probably walking away. Unless one of you think other wise. I have tmaxx but have been wanting a savage. Just haven't been able to foot the bill for a new one yet. ThAnks for the help so far though.

Why is there no rotostart if it's so new?
You have no idea if the engine is good or the transmission is shot.

Without starting and running it, it's ONLY a roller worth $150. If he wants more he has to run it for you.

Yes I too would stay away or have him run it the air cleaner is an indication of serious abuse!I buy them here in Canada all day long for $100.and in way better condition!

Not even worth $150 as a roller. It is the 25 it not 21 style truck judging by the air filter. The truck only has four tanks through it? He is straight up lying...four months old? Again he is full of it. That truck I would say is no LESS than 6 years old. Walk away knowing you saved yourself a lot of money and hassle.

Yea I was figuring he was full of it. Thanks for all the help guys. I'll keep my eyes open for another one. Till then I'll be in the tmaxx forum. Lol
