Hello I'm kyle I'm new to this site..ok I just got my savage 4.6 2 weeks ago, and I went through the whole breakin process everything went great..so I did check the spur gear from time to time and it was fine..today I got my truck out and ran it up the road a few times it didn't have any problems,so I go to make my final tuning to the motor and when it took off it slipped a little bit and what that did was shred the spur gear completely!! So I got a new spur gear I haven't put it in yet cuz I'm worried I will shred it again. So my question is should install the new spur gear and check the mesh on it and go again? Or is it something else?

It didn't shred from slipping. Being new,it's possible the mesh was off to begin with or the engine wasn't tight enough and moved slightly from vibration.

Go ahead and put the new one on,carefully set the mesh and loctite the engine mount screws. Be sure to give the loctite time to setup before running it though. While you're at it,loctite the grub screws in the output drive cups on the transmission and input drive cups on the diffs. The Savage is notorious for these coming out on new trucks.

Ok I fixed the the spur gear problem. Now I have another problem my motor is over reving and shutting off and my temps only got to 200 and its takes off great but about half throttle the rpms get really high!! Also the stock spur tooth is 47t but my local hobby shop only had a 49t so that's what's on there now..so do I need to adjust the transmission so that it shifts sooner?

Could be that your slipper is slipping. If it is slipping, then you should take the spur back off, rough up the slipper pad on the back very gently with mild sand paper, then put the spur/washer/spring/nut back on. Tighten the nut until the spring is compressed fully, then back it off 1/4 turn.
