so my step son runs a savage 4.6 and that thing is loud as hell....like twice as loud as my traxxas rigs...although i wouldn't consider this a huge problem it is kinda annoying...i hear that a tuned alloy pipe will quieten it down a bit and i was wondering what you guys suggest...

is there a hole in the manifold or the joining pipe this may make it louder i found that out myself. i have also found a alloy pipe is harder to cut out but not as loud hop this helps

The Savage is a big block engine where the TRX are small block. They WILL be louder. What pipe is on there right now? If it is the ribbed pipe yeah I understand that thing is crazy loud.

i understand that its going to be louder but my lord its like dirt bike runnin around...the pipe on it now is the plastic one it came with...i have read they are loud and a different pipe would quieten it down a little but I'm not sure which to get...need a little guidance..

Actually the plastics pipes are not real loud...hmmm. You could always try the HPI Savage alloy tuned pipe. It is a two chamber so it has baffles that might help out a bit.

You can also add a silicone extension and aim it at the ground.

I have both the X 4.6 with the plastic pipe and the XL with the alloy pipe. The 4.6 is actually a little quieter. The fact is the big block engines are just louder. Most after market pipes are geared more towards performance rather than muffleing the sound. My advice is learn to live with it.
