An ikea opened on AZ a few months ago and people camped out for a week or more. WTF? That stuff isn't that good.

For some reason, Americans seem to think anything European is incredibly trendy and high quality. Frankly, their stuff doesn't look much different than the stuff you buy in WalMart and have to assemble. I guess it's that same mentality that seems to always cast some British guy in every Saturday morning infomercial. What is it about them? Do Americans for some strange reason seem to think a cheap-ass dimestore product is suddenly 100 times better because there's a guy with an accent selling it? P.T. Barnum was right. There's a sucker born every minute....

I heard about a year ago that the founder of Ikea was now the richest person in the world. He wasn't on the last Forbes list because that only included Americans.

I preffer to build my furniture....the only thing I bought was my couches from Ethan Allen and only becauser they were a hideous plaid that nobody wanted I got a 3500 sectional sofa and 1000 sofa for 1800 bucks.....love the plaid.....my Entertainment center and Bed/dresser I made from wood I bought at home depot...paid 250 bucks for a pile of wood and spent 2 weeks building......my kitchen table is one my dad made when I was 2yrs old...and it's a tank plans from Mechanics digest for a beefy shop style table.....I can tapdance on it and it won't break.....that's the way furniture should be made.....park a 350 on it and still be able to eat dinner when your done.....
I think most industries now just make the bare minimum and expect you to just take it.....no pride in work anymore that sucks......I should have lived in the glory days of our industries....at least you got what you paid for then.....

Ouch, so not a fan of anything non-american then??

Oh no, please don't take it as that. Just not a fan of low quality shilled stuff. I have been to Ikea before and I'm marginally impressed. I'm more like Plaidfish. You just cannot beat a nice handmade piece of furniture. I just sense that to some people, branding is more important that the product itself. Put 2 identical pieces of furniture in Target and Ikea and I bet more people buy from Ikea. That's the point I was trying to make.
And as far as my other point, well, that one's difficult to see if you don't get to watch our infomercials over here. It's just odd that for some reason there's always either a Brit or an Aussie selling it. Acutally I find it kinda funny. By no means do I mean any disrespect.

LOL
Candyman is right Ryan....I have two friends from london and it seems even though one of them is just straight busted looking (and he's the first to admit it) he gets laid like a hawaiian tourist at a luao.....just because of the accent....it works so well they taught another friend to speak "Proper English" and now he's scamming chicks....I'd be offended by this normally but he does it during Spring break in SoBeach where it seems that's the sole reason the hotties come here, is to get some....So Ryan if you want to tap some wild college cuties just head to soBe during spring break....that brit talk makes em wet...
