It varies depending on engine size, fuel percentage, etc. What engine are you asking about, or are you looking for the generic catch all temps ? Usually 270 is peak for many engines, but then again, some run just fine at that, some even higher. I would consider anything below 200 too cold.

on my old duratrax with a torq .12 it says a drop of water should stay on for atleast 3 seconds anything else is safe, i did that and according to the temp gun that was like 290-310 degrees but i can't get the car to rev high enough unless i run it that high in temp. and since i dont care about that engine i run it the way it gets some sort of power.

even though i bet if i opend up that engine it could have used a rebuild a year ago, but it still turns over on the first or 2nd crank.

I've heard that smaller engines run hotter than their bigger brothers, but I think 290-310 is too hot. A spike in that temp range might not be detrimental assuming you weren't in that range for very long. But to run at those temps for any amount of time will result in a pre-maturely dead engine. Sounds like it's time for a re-build, or at least a look inside, see what the condition is. How's the compression (glow plug in, engine cold) ?

Over 300 for a single session is highly unlikely to cause you to lose a gallon worth of life however I would suggest keeping it below 300. When tuning and engine you set it where you like it best. The temp is not a goal it is merely there to keep you informed if you are at too high a temp. If your rc is running 220 and you like the way it's performing for you then leave it.

Well I know that not any 2 engines will run the same since there are so many variables in to play. The 2.5 for the Tmaxx runs great at temps near 275. Now that doesn't mean that all engines are like that. My Picco 26 runs great at 255 but its brother runs best at 245. I tried to keep the same settings on them I tune them at the same ambient temps but in different rides. One is in my MGT the other one is in my OFNA PCR pro. I drive em hard and they run Bitchen! Temps isn't everything but a guide to not roasting your engine and your wallet:flaming:

my pro .15 maxx runs around the 260-275 range. A bit on the warm side, but o well:hamster:

And at what point are you reaching 310 ? Full tank, half, near empty ? If you are hitting 300+ with a full tank, it's a known fact that as you use fuel a lean condition will develop and temps can increase easily 20 degrees from full to empty.

very good point. My 2.5 maxx starts to lean out at 1/2 tank but My MGT tank leans out closer to 1/4. The MGT runs at 265 with the Ported 21 andthe Picco runs anywhere between 245 to 275 but I like to keep the temps down to 250ish

My OS 15 cv-r(x) in my xxx-nt would run around 220-245 on hard running. The same kind of engine in my 2wd 2speed maxx would run around 250-280.

In my 21 maxx, my OS 21 RG would run around 220-250 all day long. Also, in my 21 maxx, my Omega 21 comp runs around 220-245 all day long with insane power.

Personally, I like to stay below 260 and above 210. Anything cooler and you cause premature wear. Anything hotter and you have the same along with hard starting when it dies due to boiling fuel in the carb.

it doesn't really increase in temp it just holds a solid 300ish the whole tank.

i orderd the tuned pipe for it and i hope this will get more power at a lower temp.

I would hold the thought on a tuned pipe on lowering the temp. What nitro % are you running? What is the oil content? Do you have sufficient air flow to your engine? I'd look at those effecting your temps more than a tunes pipe.
