I was wondering if my maxx would work with no exhaust, so I tried it.
I tried running my 2.5 maxx w/ no exhaust and it was the LOUDEST thing I have ever heard. It sounded like it was going wot but it was just idling. I didn't drive it though. Now I'm waiting for the police to call b/c I live in an apartment and I started it in the backyard. Has anyone tried this.

I strongly suggest that you wear ear protection.

i strongly suggest u dont do that. when u run without an exhaust ur engine runs extremely lean due to lack of back pressure.

DO NOT RUN WITHOUT AN EXHAUST.

later

*EDIT* the reason why it is soo loud is because the exhaust muffles it, just like a muffler on a real car.

Maxx Trooper is 100% correct, DO NOT RUN WITHOUT A PIPE! As he stated it will not have enough back pressure to push fuel in to the carb causing the engine to run excessively lean, and ultimately causing damage to the engine.

what if you had a fuel pump?? (so that you did not run a back pressure line from the exhaust pipe)

Even with a fuel pump it is not a good idea. Cold air hitting a hot piston!:microwave

Even if your engine did not get damaged it is so loud (Basherboy is right! It is the loudest thing I have ever heard! It actually hurt!) that it will cause hearing damage in no time at all unless you had ear plugs in! No, I did not just try running without a pipe it came off after a jump!

on top of being loud and not having enough back pressure for fuel, a 2 stroke engine will make no power without a pipe. 2 stroke engines use the shape/desighn of the pipe to produce there power, allowing them to scavange and burn as much fuel as possible. (some pipes are better than others at this of course.)

U relize that without your exhaust you can look right into your piston right? It seems like itd be preatty easy for crap to get in there. I wouldnt do it

it depends. does he just have the exhaust pipe off, with the header still on, or does he have everything removed?

later

Regardless, without a pipe he's getting improper flow. Hopefully he didn't run it that way to long.

I punctured my header once and it ran like crap. Sounded kind of cool, but ran like crap none the less.

I ran it for less than a minute I had to run inside to get needlenose pliers to pinch the fuel line.

I let my maxx get out of range once when it was almost new, and wrecked it into a curb. along with other damage, the pipe came off the header, and the throtle linkage was stuck in the spur gear resulting in wot. Your right loud as hell!

By the way, that linkage in the spur gear thing has happened a couple of time on hard landings, anyone have this happen? Anyone have a fix?

yeah I've had my throttle bell crank cam over and lock the engine at WOT, no fun to say the least. looking down at the bellcrank from above, the arm which holds the linkage that goes to the throttle arm should point to 9 o'clock, or less like 8 o'clock. this is with the front of the truck pointed to your right. i hope this makes sense. you can adjust were it sits by screwinng in or out the ball end that snaps to the throttle arm.

Thanks. I don't have it to look at right now, but I'll try that when I get back from Maine.

Why'd you need needle nose pliers, your fingers work just as well and are less damaging to fuel lines.

Hypedonrc--- do you have a rotory carb or the slide carb setup with stock servo posistions? i had to flip the carb around on mine to keep the linkage away from the spur gear but i had a rotory carb.

Just found this thread again after having trouble with the linkage getting stuck in the spur gear again today. To answer Bashmaster: Stock servo setup, and slide carb 2.5 with an aftermarket cooling head, exhaust, and air intake. I'm looking for an OS 10E carb to put on it. Do you think I should find a rotory carb for it since I'm in the market for a new carb anyway? I was on the last tank when it goofed up on me today, so I'm going to mess with it, by later this week anyway, and see what I can come up with since I was in a hurry, and trying to squeeze one more tank in that I probably shouldn't have since I was already late.

Did that make any sense? Sorry for rambling.

Well,

One really can't compare not running an exhaust on a 1:1 and no pipe on Nitro engine. Nitro Engienes are very IN-efficent as far as combustion engines go. You'll run very lean, suck gas like a siv and loose a SUBSTANTIAL ammout of power.
