I'm running in the two day "Unofficial HPI Challenge". This is going to be my first time out this year with a touring car so I hope I don't break it in half. :)

I just set my camber, toe, steering angle, ride height, bump stop, and droop. This should be a good event, I'll post pictures from it.

Good luck Ross - take some pics if you can while you're there!

I had a great time at the event but I was certainly one of the slower guys there. I only run on-road about once or twice a year and my confidence level was pretty low. I was trying to run a good line around the track without crashing so I ended up going pretty slow. We ran 3 qualifiers on Saturday and a fourth qualifier plus the mains on Sunday. I finished three of the four qualifiers with 17 laps just after the 5-minute timer elapsed. I just missed 18 laps every time. I clipped a board hard in one qualifier and crashed out with a broken front bone and a broken front knuckle. My wife picked the broken car off the track and it looked like she was going to cry. She said “its broken, its ruined” :opps: I was able to repair it without too much difficulty. I also just missed 18 laps in my main and ended up finishing pretty much in last place. I was only ahead of the guys that crashed out before 18 laps. I got hit about halfway through the main and my motor shifted. This ruined my mesh and stripped out my second gear spur. I ran the second half of the main with a dragging drive train and no second gear but I was finally starting to get the hang of the track. I ended up posting my fastest lap times for the entire weekend on the last few laps even though my drive train was really hurting.

Most guys were running 18-19 laps and the really fast guys were going 21+ laps. It’s amazing how fast some of these guys are able to go around the track. They just blast off wide open in most areas with a really high level of confidence. My car ran straight, it had good traction around the turns, and my motor ran great. I just lacked the confidence to blast around the track with the fast guys.

I certainly find on-road to be much harder to succeed in than off-road. On-road is much more precise with much less room for error. In addition, when I make an error in on-road the crash can be deadly (and costly). I did enjoy tweaking my chassis before every heat, although it is a lot of work. I asked a bunch of people if they knew of our site here and unfortunately they didn't. :(
