Hey guys,

Any of you own and or have looked at the Ruger 22/45 .22 pistols? If so which one do you own? I was thinking about picking one up here soon. Was hoping to get some opinions. I was just looking for something economical to plink with. Thanks guys.

Tom

I don't have the Rutger ...

But DO have a Mountain Man ??? Brand all composite .22LR I really like ....

15 shot clip real smooth......you really have to be steady with the LR loads they kick a touch...;)

The Rutgers are nice equipment......I have the 10/22 Rifle.

Yeah that would be the number 2 rifle on the short list. I have always enjoyed the .22 LR. It is fun to plink with and I can shoot all day for under $20. A friend of mine has an older Ruger .22.. I believe it is the Mark II? It looks more like a German Luger than anything else, but it is fun and I have wanted one ever since I shot his. There are so many different models of the Mark III though. I guess I will have to check out the gun show next weekend. I find it much better to choose a handgun after I have held it and had and chance to see it in person.

Oh yes I agree...I MUST handle it, and even better SHOOT it, before I buy it.....I have very few firearms, but I hand selected each one for a purpose....and it has to feel right first.

My favorite for its purpose is The Remington 870 pump...for home protection....I just love the way it sounds when you load one up.:hammer:

For sure the gun show...........hey you ever get your cover up on the TUB??? You folks practicing regular??:breakdown

Looked at the 22/45 before I bought my Browning.
Just felt out of balance? Just my opinion.
Think the grips are made onto the pistol. A slipover is all you can put on it if ya don't like them. Can change the grips on the Mark 3. Seems like more options there too. Had my eye on a Hunter a while back. Sweet gun.

Pick up a Buckmark at the show and see what ya think. Not much aftermarket stuff for them. Maybe grips and a barrel? If ya want to scope one, have to do a bit of searching unless ya buy one with a mount. But I love mine.

Smith and Wesson has one for about the same price as the Ruger. Stay away from it. Not had any experience, just what I've read. Had a couple of my friends talk about them too.

Look around at a few of the gunshops before ya go. Have in mind what ya want to buy. Our gunshow is always higher than the gunshops in the area.

Good luck Bro.

Let us know what ya get.

I have an 870 and yes... you just gotta love the way it sounds when you rack it! LOL

The Pergola for the tub has been ordered, but it has not arrived yet. They hand make them somewhere out west, I think Colorado, and then ship them drop freight. I think my wife said it would be here sometime around the 27th of this month.

And a big 10-4 to your last question! LOL

Tom

I would go with a mark 2. You can change the grips, as well as just about everything on them. The mark 3 is out, but its an attorney's gun. Too many safetys and not enough adjustability for most.

I plan on getting one as my next gun.

Hey Thanks VB! I will keep that in mind.

Hey Dig... yeah that is what I plan on doing as well. I use the gunshows as a place to just do the "touchy feely" type of thing. It is an oportunity to handle the gun, check the feel and the balance of it. They usually have all the different models on display and I will make a list of what I would like to see. Then it's just go up and spend half a day drooling at all the neat weaponry that is on display. Of course I can't afford 90% of it! LOL I would like to get the 16" upper for my AR... but they are like 800 bucks... I don't think so Tim. LOL After the show I will hit the local shops to see who has the best price and spend the cash there. With most of the vendors at the show being out of state, and with the 10 day waiting period, I really don't want to drive 8 hours or more when I can get the gun here local.

I'm sure it not what your looking for, but i love my Taurus pt22 pistol..it only has a 10 round clip though kind of a bummer...

i had a problem once where a crack developed on the slide (after thousands & thousands of rounds) sent it to Taurus because they have a lifetime warranty, got it back they replaced about everything but the grips for free ...so now i also have a taurus raging bull .454 revolver with 6" barrel LOL

I have a 24/48, .115 caliber, compass in the stock and this thing that tells time Red Rider. Friggin' thing is AWESOME! I can drop a giant sequoia from 57 paces, one hand over my eye and drunker than a monkey!

If you can find them (very, very rare, Tom) this is the gun for you!

Hey RP... Taurus makes a really nice weapon. I have heard folks talk about the Pt22 and it has all been good. The .454 Casull is a really nice pistols as well. Talk about a hand cannon! I have looked at several Taurus' and really like the balance and the way the gun points. That is pretty cool that Taurus replaced the parts for you. Customer service like that is not easy to come by.

Hey Monkey man.. believe it or not.. I still have my original Red Rider BB gun from when I was 8 years old. It has some wear on it.. but it still shoots!

Hey Digger... funny thing you mention the Buckmark. This months issue of Guns and Ammo has a really nice write up on the newest Buckmark and it really looks like a nice pistol. I will have to add that one to my list.

I'll have to try to get that issue.

Hey Digger,

I just got it in the mail yesterday so it should be just hitting the shelves. If you can't find it, just let me know and I will send you my copy. I usually don't save them once I am done with them. Just let me know, and it's yours.

Thanks Bro.
Which one did they do? http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/category.asp?value=006B
I've got this one? http://www.browning.com/products/catalog/firearms/detail.asp?value=006B&cat_id=051&type_id=427
(They have changed the grips since I bought it.)

Thinking of any other .22's? My Browning is open sites. Gonna leave it that way, but I would like to get something to put a scope on.
Be between the Ruger and another Buckmark right now.

Was able to get Dad's old High Standard .22. From the serial number was made in 1947? Been rode hard and put up wet.
Took it to the shop first thing. Firing pin and the slide spring was messed up. Got to shoot it once.
Still needs work. Not sure if I'll do it myself or let him work on it again.
Anybody got any experience with them, shoot me a pm.
Used to sneak this gun out when I was 11 or 12, would really like to fix it up. My kid will get it in a few years.

Let us know what ya get Tom.
Go ahead and get a pistol and a 1022. Do a 1022 build with pics? :celebrate:
