RC Driving Style
Hi every one I'm new, I'm 15 btw and come from the uk.

I have a kyosho 1/10 touring car (.12 gx12.) I bought it from a mate who didn't treat it very well! I'm now thinking of a fresh start and have seen a deal on a rs4 3. It is car ready to run with 2 shells and a 2 speed for £260. I pretty sure this is a good deal. any way will it be a good car for me I'm still not the best at rc nitro but am learning. what other parts can I get for better top end speed.

Cheers, sorry about the long post!

carnage - welcome to RCNT!

Although i am a diehard Team Associated fan, the HPI RS4 is a GREAT entry level touring car. It is easy to use, easy to repair, and there are plenty of aftermarket hop up parts, as well as plenty of local hobby shops that stock factory repair parts. I am not too sure on the exchange rate with US dollars, but if u are, a brand new RS4-3 RTR here in the states sells for about $290.00

Is the one you are looking at brand new?

Hope this helps, and once again, welcome to RCNT!

Cheers, for the reply and the welcome.

I want to get some quick replies as I should be ordering this tonight if no problems arise  .

$290 is about £200 so it alot cheaper over in the US but it always is, I wouldn't be buying it though if it wasn't for the free parts, 2 speed $90, 2 bodies $50 and free batteries $10.

I am realy into modified car and can't drive for another 2 years so I think I should concentrate on rc, I think the rs4 will be an excellent base for any future projects such as .21's and other crazy parts.

I have already got a tvr painted in light blue sparkle and looks amazing, I will getting a lambo murchielago and can't decide on the other shell, any suggestions.

Cheers

for bodies - the dodge stratus is the best handling body, although not the best looking. if u watch a race, u will see only the stratus body being used

pick up the XXXmain tuning guide - www.xxxmain.com - this will prove invaluable in learning handling characteristics of touring cars. Also pick up RCnitro's beginning nitro rc book, which will tell u all about break in proceedures and basic engine tuning.

finally - ASK ALOT OF QUESTIONS! nitro engines are very easy to ruin if u do something wrong, so ask alot of questions and learn before u do. good luck, and welcome to a hobby as addicting as Crack.

yay!!!! Ordered it.

I'm a parking lot basher but I want as much speed as possible, a big engine is on the cards but not yet, does the rs4 3 come with a tuned pipe and header. If not can someone suggest one. What are my options for tuning?

Also style is very important so with the winter closing in and the days getting shorter I might get some neons to compliment my sparkling blur tvr and soon to be silver gt3 and flipped murchielago  .

Any thoughts ???

yes, the RS4 does come with a pipe and header, although they are rather cheezy. Check with NCNitro, he has one, and he can recommend a much better pipe.

also check out an LED headlight kit. They cost about 40.00 USD, and really do light up the road about 20 meters in front of the car.

Yes I have a RS4 3. I added the two speed tranny to mine, as well as the THS Racing one piece tuned pipe and an OS 10e carb. The stock engine is still running strong after two years now ,and I have lost track of how much fuel I have run through it. I have been very happy with mine. I am now starting to concentrate on handling. I just ordered a set of Jaco nitro shoes for it, I am curious to see how they will affect the handling.

If you are new or fairly new to nitro I would recommend just running it the way it comes until you get the feel for it, then start upgrading.

Right phoned up and it should be with me tomorow or friday, can't wait

does anyone know where I can get tuned pipes in the UK and a rough price.

The plan is to run the engine in very carefully then tuning to the optimum fuel/air mixture and then to do upgrades, sound good?

Does anyone know wheather the 15fe can go to 50mph, I am expecting 40+ with the 2 speed!

cheers

gearing has more to do with top speed than engine. stock gearing in the 2speed should sit u around 40-50. i imagine u should be able to gear that engine up to about 60, but it would take a runway to get there, lol.

do a member search - i know we have several other members here in the UK, they should be able to help u with the pipe.

sweet! arrived today

Well after about 20 mins I've assembled some of the final parts and got the electrics hooked up and I am running my old kyosho radio because I prefer twin-sticks to the hpi.

Anyways will do some finishing later and will run it in.

Thoughts please and tipe on running in. Cheers

ok broken in and I'm not dissapointed realy good speed and handling and I haven't even tuned it:smart: .

So what hop-ups are the most common, I already have a 2 speed (not fitted.) I am in to modified cars so I'm looking at cool things more than practical, If you know what I mean! bear in mind I'm a parking lot driver.

Cheers

Dude first thing I always tell people is get the fiber disc brake, or get a kyosho MP6 brake set. This is a Dual brake setup vented rotor setup. It will give you two sets of brakes and you won't be sorry. I put this on my Nitro MT as well as my type SS and wow does it stop well. Plus it is only about $3.00 more than the HPI fiber brake disc and there is two. Most common upgrades other than getting rid of the .15fe is usually a better header and pipe. THS makes a good one or you may also look at an RDLogics pipe and header. Other than that Aluminum and graphite hop ups are pretty popluar. Later

Stuff I'd recommend

Hey man, I know you are just bashing. However one thing that is going to get to you about this car is the fact that it spins out at high speeds all the time. Get yourself a good set of springs
Example http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXWB80&P=K

If you are still running the stock brake setup you will also probably want to upgrade the brakes. Get either the HPI fiber brake which will stop your car plenty fast. Or for sort of a cool vented rotor break look try the kyohso brake set. I like the Kyosho set because they provide two sets of brakes for only a couple of duckets more than the fiber brake disc. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXT697&P=0

You also may want to pick up graphite shock towers and Graphite upper deck. They are totallly worth it too. Later

Hey, I'm getting an HPI RS4 RTR3. It hasn't come yet but i can't wait. I've been looking and if you want something to look cool, you can get headlights, ground lights, and licence plate lights. Here is a website, but i might go somewhere else for them. http://remotecontrolvehicles.com/jeeps.html Hope it helps.
