Hey guys i was just wondering what youll's opinion is on a new engine.

I was thinking about getting a new one fore my rs4 3 but i dont know which ones will fit.

i want a motor that i dont have to do many mods to to make it fit and i also want to know if the hpi engine exchange is worth do or if its better to just buy a new engine off tower.

and which is the cheapest direct drop that will actually last me a while

oh i plan just to bash and mess around really maybe a little bit of racing here and there.

Thanks

I though it was a direct drop in but I've heard a few things about it not fitting, the O.S. .18 CV-RX. If this is a direct drop in this is the engine for you. It has lots of power from what I hear and will last you a very long time, at least thats O.S.'s reputaion. And its only around 90-100 bucks on tower.

get a good 12 engine for you rs4 they are faster then any 18's.
get the hpi pro xs12 engine or if ya wanna go really fast. get the sirio 12 evo 2

I am going to find out if this is true pretty soon.

My speculation would be a .18 will give you better power off the line and a .12 would give you high speeds and great high end power.

Either a .18 or a .12 will be fine. Nice .12s usually cost a lot though.

It also very dependent on gearing. You can gear a high torque .18 very tall (numerically low) for very high top speeds and still maintain acceptable acceleration.

well ill most likely be running stock gearing to start out with but might re gear after i get in broke in and everything and i dont have a 2 speed but ill look into the .18 it sounds nice and the price is about right.

so yeah anymore suggestions let me know

I like the Sirio .12 outlaw for the money. Cost about $170.
I run one in my Kyosho V-one RR.

I have a Novarossi JP modified .12 going in my new Kyosho V-one RRR.
Thats a $$$ engine, and do NOT suggest it till you get a lot of tuning under your belt.

I guess it depends on your budget.
If you want to spend $100, go with what you can get.
If you can spend any amount, go with Novarossi or Collari.

well let say i want to spend under $100

would the .18 be an ok engine to put in it or would i have to do some mods to make it fit

it had a .15fe in it before so i dont know what changes besides the displacment

Pretty much any engine .18 or below should fit just fine. Also any engine you buy will be muuuuch better than the .15 FE.

yeah i know that so ill will more then likely get the .18 maybe the .12 if the price drops

i will get pics and give youll more info when i get it up and running i havent used this car in like a year or 2 cuz i blew the engine.

thanks to all for the help

Are you a beginner? If you are I would suggest the .18 just because it will idle smoother, have a wider tuning range, a just be a easier engne for a biginner to deal with.

If you have experience with tuning engines a race .12 will be a great choice, they will be a faster engine.

I'm not looking for anything other then a basher maybe with a little bit of raceing and if i do race it will prolly be back street raceing i dont plan to do any roar racing

and I'm thinking about those two because of the price i dont want to spend over a hundered on the engine

Out of curiosity, what makes the O.S. .18 CV-RX a better engine than the HPI 18SS or 12r?

I just bought a used HPI RS4 RTR3 and had plans to put in an 18ss.

Thanks

The OS will deliver about the same power and it is a lot cheaper. There was a recent dyno review in an RC Mag of the .18 motors and the OS actually put out the most power.
