As much as I fricken hate threads like this, I gotta do one. I'm fairly new to the touring scene and just bought a Rs4 3 RTR, and HAVE to do some hop ups. Its all stock and first thing thats gotta go is the square stock header... that things just bad... But I'm not sure what to do after that? It has the 15fe engine in it, and is bone stock. What would you do? I'm not planning on racing it at all, and dont want to spend TONS of money, but done want cheap poop either.. I had a 4tec a couple years ago (Thats why I left the touring scene... Piece of poop... It got ripped off and I feel like I screwed iver the guy..lol) Anyway So what would your suggestions be for this car?

(Again i appologize for this thread ahead of time.. I hate these too..lol)

I may be wrong, but if it does not have the turnbuckles for the suspension, get a set off of the SS kit(order through HPI or LHS). Also, sway bars and higher rate srpings, especially if you race or practice on smooth ground. Tires seem to be a factor, too. Foams are preferred for racing but I use rubber right now as all my racing is on asphalt.

There's one heck of a list that could be posted, but it depends on what you want to spend. If you want to wake it up a little and not spend a ton, first get a new header. Get the 2-speed tranny. Those basics will get it running at an enjoyable pace. If you really want to get some speed, you'll have to get a new mill. The FE is a nice, basic engine, but if you were to drop a better engine in (like a race .12 or a bigger .18) you'll get more speed. But then you budget is going to start to grow. If you're just lotbashing, I say fire it up and drive the wheels off it no matter how it's set up.

You can upgrade your carb on the 15FE if you want to keep it. Candyman said the most important ones. The rest would be for racing .

Carbon fiber upper radio deck--- reduce weight but sand the edges not to score or cut the servo wires.

foams for better traction. Softer wears faster but better traction. Harder lasts longer.

Better pipe... I may have one PM me if interested.

Better header- the stock one is not so free flowing. You can just dremel the port opening.

Better engine- THhis can dictate which pipe and header you should get.

I think the RTR 3 has dog bones so you may want to upgrade to CVD's.

Think that is it. Haven't had that since 2003.

Id just be doing alot of parkinglot rippen around. It has the 2 speed tranny in it (I thought they came stock.. O well, well I guess there Is a mod) I havnt got it yet and got a sweet deal on it on Ebay, so I guess I can tell more what I got, when I get it. But yeah I was looking at the o.s. .12.. Might be something to consider. I'm just gonna get the feel of the onroad scene again before I go for any major speed. How do foams do/last on tar?

yes there is lots you can do to the RS4 3
I had one that I traded to a member, I believe he got rid of it due to frustration and not patient enough to know and learn about nitro so he went electric.

This was my old RS4 3 with tons of work done to it that you can do to and well worth the upgrades:

I miss that car, but I have something on it's way in a few days :eyes:

I had one with the fe engine . It's a good engine to get your feet wet . After awhile i put a o.s. 10e carb on it and it woke it up some i ran 30% nitro in it @ 290-300 deg and couldnt kill it... I finally replaced it with a o.s. .12 cv-r(x) slide carb and it has gob's of power. But a 2 spd upgrade is a MUST.

Oh. man, I gotta pick up one of those. Do you have one, ross? Does it require longer screws and bolts? I like the larger opening for the starter box. I sometimes use my starter box instead of the p/s. (local track allows p/s)

yeah that lighter chassis I had made a big difference. I got lucky and grabbed it new for $30 from a LHS during a HPI/Hot Bodies parts sale

On ross's recommendation I picked up the race tank yesterday, and I am still on the hunt for the graphite upper deck. I also picked up an AE TC 4 and the new ICE charger/discharger, and the latest Stratus body. Guess I am going to try electric on-road too. Still prefer nitor but my neighborhood has the homes pretty close together so to keep peace with the neighbors I am getting the elec for practice purposes.

I do not have the optional chassis because it seemed expensive for what it was. I would have certainly purchased it for $30. Right now my motor mount bolts at the bottom of the chassis are ground down badly from hitting bottom. Removing the mount from my current chassis is gonna be painful. I may have to grind a new groove in the screws. My stock chassis bottom looks pretty beat up so I may eventually get the optional one. I would probably do the race clutch at the same time because the motor will be out.

I think my biggest concern right now is learning how to drive the thing properly on the track.

I had a rs4 and upgraded the shocks added aluminum towers a-arms custom wheels and never even drove it lmao I sold it on ebay and bought my T-Maxx I wish I had at least got some run time on it :( I also bought it on ebay for 80 bucks!! Now if I did it over I would have added all of the aluminum because of the added weight and it not like I would be launching it through the air Like I do with the Maxx, well actually knowing me I would have seen how far I could make her fly LMAO!
