RS4 3 Front one way diff

Whats the different between the stock RS4 3 front diff and the optional front one way diff?

One way diffs are like bicycle sprockets. When you pedal forward, you're driving the wheel. When you aren't pedaling or you are pedaling backwards, you're just coasting. A one way means that the wheels get power, but they don't provide any braking. So a front one way diff would mean both wheels get equal power on throttle, but they do not brake at all. You probably don't want that, I think it's for pretty serious racers.

I thought a 1 way diff was more like an lsd. From what they look like, its seems its that way aswell.

As far on throttle, one ways are like a solid diff. Both wheels spin the same speed when under power while a regular diff would allow the wheels to spin at different speeds when going around a turn. But, when off throttle with a one way diff, they coast and you lose ALL ability to brake the wheels. A front one way means you only have rear brakes. It's the same thing that's in your pullstarter. The pullstart grips the shaft when you pull on it, but it just coasts when the engine is running.

interesting. I knew that the wheels locked together, just didnt know that it kept the front wheels from breaking. I dont think its a good idea. I think a lot of your breaking power is up front and could just cause you to get sideways on a turn when you brake.

Yeah, if you lock up the rear wheels, the car will want to rotate. The serious 1/8th scale racers run them, from what I understand. They run front one ways and solid rear diffs. With only a rear brake, the car rotates when entering a corner, giving you more steering. You get a ton of straight line traction though, since all 4 wheels are getting equal power.
