Hey, I have had my savage 1 month and been killed 2 one ways. I think it is of the roto start. So i added my pull start back on
I guess 40$ for the roto start was worth it. for the break in at least. Because a big block is hard to pull. But at 20$ a pop for a one way. I am going to stick with a pull start unless someone makes a unbreakable one way for the savage lol
So i guess if you ask me is the roto start worth it. I will say in the end no but for breaking in your car yea.

if you are having a hard time with the pull start that is a sign that it is starting to get flooded with fuel... cause mine starts easy... and if it pulling gets hard I just take the glow plug out flipp the savage and pull on it the so the extra fuel will come out..

Hey thanks for that tip i will rember that next time i try to start it.

I've been using a Roto Start since day one with my Savage and did toast one bearing. I beleive it is more from the easy temptation to keep going with the starter when the engine doesn't kick right over than it is the actual roto start. I gave this some thought and with a pull start you only give short bursts of thrust against the bearing during starting. The roto start can reall stress the bearing with only the need to press a button. I started concentating on only using short few second bursts with the starter and never more a couple times before I give it little break. I think what happens is that the starter overheats the bearing if run for any length of time and that cause the failure of the bearing. There is also a lot more torque with the roto than the pull start. So far, the second one way bearing is holding up real well. If this one goes, then I may reconsider the starter but I really feel the problem is more the way you use it than the Roto Start itself.

Ok i am I lied, I had the pull start on it like i said it did but i just took it off and put a roto start back on. I was getting sick of pulling it. Now i know what is pull start feels like... It Sucks. I guess i will call hpi and ask why it is happening.
Thanks for all your tips
Doug
