hey guys, thanx in advance for your help. My 8 year old son and I are having trouble starting our revo 3.3 All batteries are charged full. When we push the starter button the green glo plug light, lights and the engine turns for what sounds like about a half of turn and then quits. the other light on the starter is not light.

I'm hoping there is just something obvious that this rookie is missing cause when the car starts it runs great.

thanx

Your piston is probably getting stuck at TDC (top dead center) that other light on the EZ-start wand just tells you something is preventing the engine from turning.

All you have to do is use a screw driver, or your thumb, to rotate the flywheel around clockwise (if viewed from the back of the truck) until it just becomes easy to turn. It might be easier to turn if you take the glow plug out too.

It sounds like this is a new engine so there probably isn't much lubricant in there right now. Take out the glow plug and give a quick (1-1.5 second) burst of WD-40 or a few drops of after run oil and rotate the flywheel around to get things lubed up.

It should turn over fine after that.

If it is a new engine, you may get stuck at TDC periodically throughout break in. Just rotate the flywheel around like before. Also, make sure that your piston is at BDC (bottom dead center) whenever you shut your engine off. This will prevent the contracting metals in your engine from ruining your pinch.

To overcome the high compression of a new engine, you can also loosen the glow plug about 1/2 a turn, just enough to let some compression out while it's spinning. When it starts, tighten it back up.

I have another rookie question.

I have a brand new Revo 3.3 and I am wondering if I need to put a little ARO in BEFORE first starting it. I did not see anything in the manual about it, but it just makes sense to me to have a little lube in there beforehand since it is supposed to take a few seconds for the fuel to even get to the carb.

Is this something people normally do with these nitro motors or is it not really needed?

Thanks.

It wouldn't hurt. I typically do, especially with new engines. A few drops down the carb and a few down the glow plug hole.

You can also prime the engine by disconnecting the pressure line from the pipe and blowing in it. Just stop when the fuel reaches the carb. That's what I do all the time due to using pull-starts. It's easier than trying to plug the exhaust and pull the starter at the same time.
