Road Cycling

I was into BMX as a teen and those days aren't about to make a comeback for various reasons. Fear being one of them. LOL

I'm on the fence about getting a dedicated road bike. The 25 mile ride just got me thinking about it. The MTB I use for road riding is fine for the distance I usually ride.

I use a 2000 Schwinn Rocket 88 Stage 3 full suspension that belonged to my dad for on road use. My dad only used it to tour around town so it looks brand new. I want to keep it that way so I won't take it off road. From comparing the specs of a stock 88 and what is on it now, it looks like he poured quite a chunk of change and upgraded the majority of the components.

The bike I use for the dirt is a 2001 K2 Razorback 3.0 full suspension. Stock except for the seat.

I'm thinking of getting into the mtb groove until I have a garage to play with RCs. Torn between the Diamondback Overdrive, Scott Aspect Tour, and the Specialized hardrock. All are 29" tires with mechanical disc brakes. Anyone have experience with these? Prices range from $549 to $580

Of the 3 you listed I'd go with the Specialized or Scott, Diamondback has become more of a department store brand like Schwinn or Mongoose.

I had a hardrock pro with avid mechanical discs, and freaking loved that thing. It was a tank, and would take anything you could throw at it (unlike me )

I still love my Kona One20.

If you have alot of time onroad is good. But I found that I can get in a better workout in 30 minutes on the mtb compared to an hour on the roadie.

As far as MTB vs Road bikes, it all depends on the terrain. The Texas Hill Country is a beautiful place to ride and has lots of great hills with miles and miles of paved roads. You can even see people like Lance Armstrong training there when they get bored with Austin.

Yeah I've noticed that about diamond back. I keep leaning towards the scott. It has 100mm travel of front fork w/ lockout vs. the 80mm w/o lockout on the specialized. and its $1 less lol

I know that feeling. Dropped my front tire off the left side of a skinny, and fell to the right, today. Came down on my side, with my arm under me. It basically ground my own elbow into my ribs. That hurt all the way around to my back!

The important thing is, the bike is fine.

Go for the Diamondback, I have the Topanga and its an amazing bike for the price. Only thing that sucks are the Kenda tires on it, great for the trails, not so great for riding around town, their quite loud and wear out quickly.
