revo won't start

Hi there,
To start out, my revo 3.3 was blowing glow plugs like crazy. after i took care of that it ran great for a while until i got busy and hadn't run it in a while. About 4 months later I have everything charged, good plug, gas, not flooded and the engine tries when i easy start it, but it just won't start.:snooty: anybody have any ideas?
 
I'm new to this stuff so what do u mean by prime? Do you mean holding my finger over the exhaust until i see the fuel moving then yes i did that.

Yeah that would be priming. What does it sound like when you try to start it? Have you tried upping your throttle trim a bit to see if that helps? Is the fuel any good? EZ Start battery fully charged? If you still use the blue wire...have you tried a glow plug ignitor at all? I hear horror stories about that blue wire to the glow plug ;-)
 
it sounds normal like it should when ur starting it, it just won't run. i just made sure everything was fully charged this morning, out a brand new glowplug in it and still nothing. I just put 20% traxxas fuel in it. the fuel that is in the likes might be old though. i will blow that out and get back to you. oh and what do you mean about the blue wire?

I'm with MotoGod on this one, try a glow plug ignitor.
 
ok how much are they? does it have to be special for a revo 3.3 or just any glow plug ignitor?

I don't understand why i should get an ignitor when the glow plug light lights up and there is nothing wrong with the wire? sorry for the questions i just would like to know how these thing work. also would it be easier to just get a pullstart for it?

You can get one for about $10.00, No it doesn't have to be a special one for a revo, just a regular glow plug ignitor.
 
I will get one 2moro and see if it helps any. thanks for all the help. I will let you guys know how it goes.
 
ok i got an ignitor and a new bottle of traxxas top fuel. still nothing. I'm stuck plz help me out.
 
Pull the plug out and hit it with the glow ignitor. Makes sure it glows BRIGHT BRIGHT red/orange and that the entire wire is glowing not just a piece of it. If it's a rechargeable glow ignitor, make sure you charged it for the initial full overnight charge. If it takes a battery make sure it's brandy new.

When you press the red button, does the motor make a monotone spinning sound...or do you hear it thumping like it wants to actually start? Have you primed it enough by chance? I know when I got my first truck I wasn't priming it properly and I could just never fire up the truck at all. If you have a clear fuel line, prime it until you see the fuel flow out of the tank and into the carb, and then keep priming for another second or so to make sure fuel gets IN the carb before you try and fire it up.

As long as you have a good plug, good fuel, proper prime, and air getting into the motor...you should at minimum hear it sputter a little bit. If your carb is tuned way out of whack, you may want to go back to factory settings and see if fires up that way and start the tuning process all over again. Just need to get that little sucker fired again first!
 
i had trouble starting miine as well. i got a new pipe coupler for it and it started first go. they sometimes perish if left for a long time. make sure that it is not sucking air through there or the fuel tank.
 
Alright, it started up once this morning, but only rand for about five feet. it's probably just a little cold. then i went to start it again. the starter turns, but the motor isn't thumping at all. could it be the EZ starter? I'm sure the plug is good i pulled it and got a bright glow. starter maybe???
 
Have you taken the head off to check the piston/head from damage due to dirt getting into the cylinder? If your piston is scored down the sides from dirt it won't start and if it does start will die as soon as you back off the throttle. Been there done that unfortunately. Make certain the area around the glow plug is dirt free before removing the plug.

Also, open the throttle all the way up (or remove the carb entirely) and shine a light down on the crank shaft and look for rust in the hollow center. If the shaft is rusted it won't start. Again, unfortunately I have experienced this as well by forgetting to put after run oil through the carb.

I would concur with all of the above.If like you say it did run for a short while.
Then it is evident that it WILL run.
So i reckcon you should go back to default carb settings and also reset your remote throttle settings to neutural.
And replace all fuel lines,check your EZ connections.
I prefer to blow down the pipe to prime it,down to choice:)
 
ok very helpful, but y is the EZ starter turning but the engine not???
 
it thumps when i first press the button and right when i let off of the button.
 
Is the starter actually turning the engine over? If not possibly bad one way bearing.

Definatly OWB(Oneway bearing) if the car starts to thump then stops and ez start motor is still spinning Pull ez start off motor there is a bearing in there pay very close attention to how it is on. pull off bearing clean it by spraying it with wd 40 or pb balster. Replace it back the way it was bolt it up and see what happens. You should be good after that. to make cold starts easier heat the head with a blow dryer.
