I'm wanting to get another engine. What other engine besides the picco .26 red is a direct drop in and has more power than the 3.3 and the picco .26

The OS .21tm or the .18tm if you can still find it. The OS .18tz is pretty close to a drop in. All you have to get is the crank from the .18tm and put it in then you are good to go. You dont have to get a mount with those guys either but the power isnt the same as the picco.

I have asked and searched this question many times...
And keep coming back to the .26 Red Dot as the biggest Drop In engine...
You can go bigger with a few mods...
But have you driven a .26 Red Dot...??? They are VERY quick...
Plus I wouldnt risk quality just to try and get a slightly bigger engine...
Picco is a great brand...

Hello Guys.. I'm new to the forum and to RC..
Was going to open a thread, but this fits exactly on what I'm looking for...

I brought an used Revo 3.3 from my LHS, it ran great for the first week or two, but I started experiencing some issues with the engine. Not been able to tune it correctly and I found out a little gas leak under the cooling head... Tied up those bolts and was able to run for a little while...

Then I had issues with my clutch that got stuck (wheels were not moving when pulling is backwards), open it up and there was metal piece inside (from a washer probably). I cleaned everything up and reinstalled the clutch... no problems, but there was a little crack in the clutch bell.

I did some changes to the car (center diff, sway bars, wing), was also time for a new clutch bell as I wasn't very confident with the old one. My LHS just had an aftermarket 16T, I also bought new shoes so the whole installation would be new.

Obs.: After I installed the center diff and the new clutch bell, my spur moves a little weird when pulling the truck backwards...

Again, problems with the engine... leaking - I think... I was in my local race track and a couple of guys tried to help with no luck. The engine dies when you stop (there is enough clearance in the idle screw) and it's hard to start when is hot!

Open it up, it seems that it's time for a rebuilt... I think it will still run if I put an extra head gasket and seal it, but will not give a lot of power as compression seems compromised.

I'm thinking about ordering a Picco .26 and "dropping it" in. What you guys think?
Does the standard exhaust pipe work good with this engine?
I saw some people complaining about leaks (air). Is that a common issue?
Where is a good place to order this from? I'm afraid of getting an engine with issues from eBay (i.e.)
Overall maintenance of this engine, what you guys think?

Thanks!

Hey BlazInRevo - I hope these questions help you too... thanks...

If It was me I would be ditching the standard pipe and getting a THS pipe...
I'm sure you will get different opinions though...

I Seal ALL my engines just to save time later problem solving...
Obviously metal expands and warps a little when hot so sealing just adds a little more protection againts leaks...

Axial engines are known to be of lower quality. They are a hit and a miss. Ellusbrother, if your engine was over-heated regularly, it wouldn't hurt to rebuild it. A sure sign of over-heating is hard starts when it dies warmed up. But this doesn't mean it was over-heating to the point of failure. Read the sticky at the top of the nitro forum, the tuning one. It shows exactly how to seal an engine properly. It's quite simple. It wouldn't hurt to seal yours and give it one last whirl. As for the head leaking, flip the copper shim over, and re-tighten the head bolts nice and even in a star pattern. This may do the trick. On engine recommendations, the OS .18 crv is the only after market engine I've personally dealt with. I love it. Plenty of power, but not so much that your blowing your drivetrain apart. They are becoming rare though. There's quite a few upgrades that are needed to handle the .26 Picco. But they are well worth it. Great engine.

Pretty good stuff out there, Matt...
Thanks!
I will seal it tonight after work...
About the .26 Picco upgrades required, is there a list or a post talking about somewhere, that you are aware of?

Thanks again,

Ellus

Use the search feature. You'll be amazed at all the info that pops up. Make sure to give your eyes a good stretch before you begin reading.:)

I use a sirio s27 that was 159 bucks on ebay. It's been really good so far, tons of torque and rock steady tuning. You'll need a mount from trinity (sirio 23 mount) and a bb exhaust as well as a throttle linkage. I couldn't get my stock linkage to work worth a crap on it. I have yet to try a picco 26 but I'll bet the s27 is close in overall power output.

your gona need a new era bb mount dont get the ofna one and a dynamite 053 side pipe and a crt.5 jammin exaust header should be all ya need to drop in the picco u can run the rear pipe but i highly recomend the 053 side pipe for best performance and I'm pretty sure almost everyone here will tell ya that :D if you can get some Lucky Seven engine sealant works so good but rtv copper works good also

thanx for the info... so i wanna look for a era bb mount and a dynamite 053 side pipe with a crt.5 jammin exhaust header... Ok i found the picco .26 red for $215 is that pretty reasonable for that motor.

New era bb mount, i paid like 170 for my reddot try hobby etc might be cheaper u should be able to get them under 200 but they have been popular lately so prices might have gone up

I paid $199 at my lhs for my red dot. I also went ahead and swapped out the bearings for some Boca ceramics too.
