Well i have been stuck in the house for the last 5 week. The last time i got my rig out i ran it prety hard like allways and the temp never seems to get over 240 today i finnaly got her out and it was pulling wheelie on demand like it never did before. Might be the new rubbers. So i only got to drive it for like ten mins or so:(. After i was done i gave it a temp check and it was up around 260 and this was after it was off for like 1 to 2 mins. I do belive that the outside temp is right around where it was at the last time i drove it might even be a bit cooler out now. So shouldnt the tuck still be running right around the same temp it was before. I am scared that if I take it out for a real bash that it might over heat. What should i do richen up the hsn a bit? Or do the 3.3 start running a bit wormer as they really get broken in i probably only have like 14 tanks through it. If someone as any input they would be so kind as to share that would be grate! Thank you.

Isnt it starting to get in the danger zone after like 279-280?

Edit.... After reading some post i think it's the lsn that needs to be richend. The only thing diffrent on the truck is the air filter oil i used. Switched to a atv air filter oil that my brother gave me it's super sticky but lets more air through. That and the tx and rx are new. Anyone think these changes might have run my temp up?

Spend a little time tuning every time you take your truck out and you'll save yourself a ton of headaches.

Manual says not to run it over 290 I believe, but the truck is horribly slow at anything less than 270. Bogging all over the place etc etc etc. Most 3.3 owners I have talked to with a Revo say their 3.3 runs hot as well. Some in the 290 range.

my 3.3 runs badly at anything under 260, runs great between 270 and 280. i can tune mine at my house in the grass and on the road and make it run great. put in on the shelf and go to the track to days later and it run like crap. i am new to the racing thing but have learned to use the practice time to tune, every time.

Yup. Nitro needs to be pretty much re-tuned (or at least adjusted) every time you run it. Once you get the base tune down....it's usually just fine adjustments though.

Iv had my revo for some weeks now, yesterday while using it my temp too was over the top i had used a different air filter oil and applied it in droplets all around just like the manual says. It lagged a bit oftenly and i couldnt increase the temp by tunning it so i changed the air filter with the usual oil but this time applied it by putting a few drops in one of those small sealed plastic money bags and then put the foam inside and gave it a good rub. This spread out the oil evenly and allowed more air through. Then i fine tuned it a bit by opening the hsn in 1/8 turns until i was satisfied with it and managed to get the temp down to 230/240 it was flying!!
The Revo does run quite hot.

revo over heating

hey everyone I'm new to this forum so bear with me my traxxas revo runns very hot all the time I'm talking 290 300 always it gets so hot it cuts out. how can i keep my temp down to a happy 260 270 iv tryed everything hot to extra cold plugs richened the lsn leaned the lsn richened the hsn and got no luck. I'm honestly thinking of getting a picco i iv had this car for about 3 years it runs fine poping wheelies like nobodies buisness just gets very hot and quick please help thanks i await your reply

I run an MC59 Plug in my 3.3 with O'DOnnell 20% Nitro. If you are running 20% Nitro, you need a HOT plug. Not a cold one. The lower the Nitro %, generally the hotter the plug you want to run.

If your 3.3 is like most of the others I have seen.....it just won't like running @ 260 degrees. Mine starts to awake @ 260 and makes all it's real power past 270. Any cooler and it bogs all over the place.

I would take the motor back to stock settings and re-tune from there. Get it to run crisp all the way through the RPM range from a dead stop a few times...then temp it and see where you are at. If you are under 290....you're good. If your over 290, then richen it up a bit and try and get under that 290 mark. 290 is probably OK to run...but you are dangerously close to the upper limits of the motor as far as temp goes. Just remember to make your tuning changes in small increments!

It will most definately run different then 5 weeks ago. If u r pullinh wheelies no prob then its probably running at or close tpo peak performance which will be lean and the truck will be running hot. Just always keep in mind for the revo to run at safe temps u will not be getting maximum power out of the engine. Good power but not maximum

Yeah i am just going to richen it up a bit i like to be safe. I do belive that the needles are at stock or right around there. Yeah i have been running mc59 plugs and traxxas 20% fuel. Its nice to be reminded that the revos like to run hot and other peoples temps. Thanks guys!:)

Ditch the Traxxas Top Fuel. It's notoruiously hard to tune with...and just not a very good fuel at all. Try some Byron's or O'Donnell instead.

thanks for all of your posts and information guys i will reset back to factory this wknd ans shall let you all know how i got on thanks very much.....:

All my lhs has is trinity monster and traxxas:(. I do have like 3/4s of a gal of monster tho but its a mix of 30% and 20% the guy who gave it to me mixed them. And i still have about 1/4 gal of traxxas. I never really had a prob with top fuel tho this has to be my third or forth gal. But maybe next till ill order some on line to bad you can't get it by the gal.

My Revo also likes to run hot. But the other day it got a bit to hot. Was racing a friend and on the final lap I noticed the engine sound seemed to be increasing. The truck was still running good so I figured I’d finish the lap since I was winning :-o

Once I stopped I realized that the silicone tube between the header and muffler had torn. This apparently gave me a lean mix which resulted in temp around 400.. Some smoke coming off the engine as well.

Don’t know yet if it is blown but will try to run it this weekend. If no good I am going with this one:

Anyone have exp with this engine?

If it was only one lap....you are probably OK depending on how long the lap time is ;-)

i don't know much or have had much any experience with the red dot , but i do have experience with the .26 Maxx. And i love them, gobs of power, lots of speed, better acceleratoin and it sounds AWESOME!!!!

My 400f sounds far to hot suprised it didnt pop if you run a very hot lap oneday leave the piston right at the bottom of the engine that helps it not to jam or sease half way up . make sure you lube it up i spray plenty of wd40 on the glow plug entrance give it a couple of turns to pump it through . jobs a goodun i find if you use after run oil it is much thicker and fiddlesticker to start next time:first
