First, my setup:

-OS 18 TM
-15 T Pinion, 40 T Spur
-Trinity Pipe
-MS Air filter

Problem:

Engine running hot, low power, low top speed, won't shift into second gear.

Of course the OS engine starts and idles like a champ. I broke it in using the heat cycling method. I'm pretty sure it's not the engine because I had this same problem with my stock TRX 3.3 (which is the reason I got the OS) and because the OS is brand new (just finished breaking it in).

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

sounds like something is dragging, check your bearings in the axle carries and diffs. also could be the clutch if you used the same one on both engines. also check for rocks in the wheels, or wedged in under the dogbones. loose slipper? binding trans?

Go with what beason suggested. Look for drive train drag. You have a bearing shot or something tweaked somewhere. The 18TM pushes my revo around without breaking a sweat at 220F-240F all day long. I run 15/38 gearing.

Could also be the pipe or air filter not helping. What are you running for those?

When ever I run my trinity I get higher temps. Therfore I no longer run it and my temps lowered by 10 degrees or so. I just could never get a good tune with that pipe, and get it to stick threw a tank. Also once again check what beason said.

maybe its running slow and hot because its not shifting into second gear? Just a thought there might be something wrong with the tranny or clutch?

One of the first things to check is the mesh. The engine might have shifted a hair with a bad landing. A tight mesh is one of the possibilities for poor performance and overheating.

15/40?

you shouldnt have any high temps at all.

i run 19/40 and hardly ever hit 270s

thanks

Replaced the clutch, seemed to help a bit.
The engine is still running hot with decent power, still need to futz around with the tune, but at least it's shifting .. still seems to shift late, will make adjustments to the shift point.
spur spins freely - used paper method for spacing.
car rolls freely, passes diff tests, brake is loose.
noticed for the first time that the flywheel is hot.

Will switch out the Trinity pipe for another, see if that helps.
