So i figured there are a fair few cage/hoops out there and i thought id just make my own. basically going to replace the factory hoop with steel and weld nuts to the bottom so i can still mount it the same way. will be welding nuts to the underside of the top of the hoop so i can countersink the screws that will hold the bars that protect the exhaust.

btw i dont have a vice so its a bit hard to bend and keep straight lines. ill finish it all up before i weld it all together and try straighten it up as much as possible.

pics of progress.

tomorrow i hope to finish the fuel tank side. once that piece is done ill put another bar across inline with the exhaust but behind the motor (almost where the green tape is atm) so the motor can still be removed with the cage on. not sure how I'm going to mount it to the rear yet. might make up a thin plate that sits between the rear bumper mount and chassis, drill holes in it so the screws can still go through and weld the cage to it.... or just weld a small plate on the end of the bars and drill a hole in the plate and just screw it down. not sure what will be more secure but i have till monday (when i go to work to weld it) to decide.

will possibly put another bar at the front running down to where the left hand steering servo mounting hole is...

i can't see it being much more that 150-200g more, it weights 4300g from factory so with removing reverse, ez start and a servo it should bring it back to factory :P

ill weight it at work anyway with the digital scale compared to the plastic bar.

also. does the wing protect it completely? i thought the spring mount header would help my problem, but when it gets smashed in it doesn't exactly pop out lol. iv already had this header bent back onto itself hence all the marks on it

The wing does help alot I have one on mine and it works as a wheely bar and does protect the rear of the truck good in crashes all the other guys I run with that don't have one the rear of the body is all torn up from wheeling over

yeh i can see where the wing can come in handy... but it doesn't protect anything when you land flat on the roof on un-even ground

Yea there is always that I have a proline body on mine they are alot stiffer than the stock one and do help to protect it too

changed design a little and i think I'm just going to weld the bars to the roll hoop. iv made it so that everything can easily be accessible so if i need to take it off id be doing a back to chassis rebuild.
i think it should look quite good once its all welded up and painted or what not

here is the cage as it sits atm. just finished up the welding of the main part. not putting the bar going to the front of the car as i dont think there will be enough pressure pushing in that direction as most of it will be going down/towards the chassis. btw first time welding apart from a couple times welding some dodgy thin metal frames together. I'm going to go over it all once I'm finished with a grinder to smooth it all out a bit and then decide what I'm doing in regards with painting or what not

rear is mounted, just need to get to a local hardware shop tomorrow and find some nuts to match the screws that come with the revo for the roll hoop. iv cut the body up a little to fit the rear roll bar in as it goes above where the tray part is. the main roll hoop isnt cut back to fit the cover properly like the plastic one but a small cut and it fits. the rest of the steel bar sits snug under the body.

Nice.... but I dont want to protect my exhaust. If it breaks its ok. Just another reason to purchase a Trinity exhaust, Bwahahaha.

lol, thats is fair enough. i also made this so when i eventually put a big block in it is also a brace for the chassis and will protect the head on it too. iv made it so the cage doesn't have to come off to take the motor and everything out so it doesn't have to be taken off.
