Hello
I am looking at buying a nitro truck and i keep coming back to the revo . I have raced electric rc cars for the last 25 + years and my only experience with nitro engines were in boats some 15 years ago and hated them . Not looking to race just have some fun . Some things that i have been told are that the 2.5 and 3.3 engines are junk and not very reliable . I dont have a problem buying a better engine down the road . Also i was told NOT to use the traxxas fuel . What do you guys think .

thanks

Welcome to RCNT.

The Revo 3.3 and the Revo 2.5 are great. Both engines are great for starters. People that say they are junk are more than likely ones that did not tune properly. Tuning these engines are going to be very similar if you upgrade.

As far as Traxxas fuel... again, ignorant people say that. My 3.3 ran exccellent with Traxxas Top Fuel 33%

Hope this helps you!

I have one of the first Revo's that came with the 2.5r. Great motor. Just follow the Traxxas break-in to a 'T' and keep it tuned and it will serve you well. And there is nothing wrong with the Traxxas fuel, either. The 20% is great stuff.

Note this; I now have the RB 323 mill in my Revo. I have harder issues tuning that mill over the 2.5r. Oddly enough, they recommend using the Traxxas fuel and plugs in it!!! And it runs great on the fuel. (Tuning issues are my own fault)

Get a Revo and never look back. (And yes, I own more than just a Revo!)

bottom line... Traxxas engines run great with Traxxas fuel. I always keep two types of fuel, Odonnel for my buggy with OS engine and Traxxas for my TMaxx with 3.3

i use an os 18 on my revo.. runs great.. btw.. if you want to buy one.. I'm selling mine in the for sale area.. make me an offer on it.. i really need the money to buy my textbooks for next semester at college. i used traxxas fuel but i dont like how it doesn't smoke well. switched to wildcat eliminator

I never had any problems running the TRX 3.3 in my Revo. I didn't really even have to play with the needles very often once I got it tuned. Make sure that the engine is broken in using the included instructions. I was using a helicopter fuel in mine called KoolPower 20%. It could run leaner without overheating.

Please take it to PM's man. Doing it out on the open forum outside of the For Sale forum is Nothing but SPAM.

Thanks

Ummm just a little advice i am a revo owner and have been for about 3 years now and I'm not trying to steer you away from a truck. But from what I've seen a truggy is the way to go now and not the monster trucks. First truggies handle better are faster, more durable, and they are better laid out and easier to work on. Plus the revo has more plastic then metal. Take a look at the losi 8ight truggy you will be a lot hapier with it trust me. Plus you get a very nice controller and better quality parts with losi products, unlike the cheap traxxas stuff. And Losi customer service is top notch and traxxas customer service is not so good. This is all coming from personal experience and i do own a revo and I'm not very happy with traxxas quality. Losi surpasses traxxas by a long shot.

I never had many issues running other fuel in the engines... they just seemed to like to run warmer than I'd like. I helped a buddy of mine run his new 2.5R in with byrons 25% and it ran really great. As does the 2.5 in my jato, when I had it in my jato.

Tuning them can be troublesome at times, but I think that's more due to the 2.5 going into MT's. The 3.3 is much better suited for the revo and maxx which will help with tuning due to having enough power to push a MT around without tuning it so lean it burns up.
