I am building a revo 5309, i ve got 70% of parts i need for the build including the reverse parts(optidrive, tranny), but after reading some negative post on optidrive, now i don't know if i should install the reverse or not?:) if i don't i pretty much wasted $$$$ on it, but if i install it i am afraid it might fail...i can somebody help me out?:) i don't have much experienced with traxxas revo with reverse. so if anyone can enlighten me this.:)

thanks

i personally never had problems with reverse and the optidrive ...had my truck for a year now and its still going strong ;) ...and i dont go easy on the tranny

Having the original 5309 Revo I can say from personal experience that the Optidrive didn't work for me. I blew out reverse shortly after break-in. Do yourself a favor, if you don't have to have reverse, install the forward only conversion.

Right now, I have bypassed my opti-drive entirely. I just have to remember to be careful when shifting into reverse

Not atm, but I'm going to replace the opti drive when I get some extra cash. I bypassed it because it was causing my truck to accelerate uncontrollably for short bursts

your not removing your reverse even though ther causing you trouble? :) how much is a opti drive?

the optidrive also acts as a failsafe for low battery and signal loss ....have you tried reprogramming it ???...sometimes mine glitches and all i have to do is reprogram it ...and all is back to normal ..other than that , i never had problems with it ....i did remove it once ...and ended up with a runaway with dead batteries heading strait for me ..lol..

pretty sure you can get them cheap on ebay ...everybody ditches them ... but it works good on my truck ..so does reverse ...its a matter of personal choice and opinion i guess

My opti-drive crapped out and I just went forward only. To be honest I don't really miss it that much. Just one less part to break. If you have it already I would install it and run it until it poops out and then go forward only. That is the best advise I have. If you have it use it. That is just what I would do though

Yah i am gonna try it out and wait for it to crap out:) who knows it might work well:)

Mac don't you have a 2.4ghz radio?

yes i do ...i have both versions of of the traxxas 2.4ghz ...and as soon as i take off the optidrive , i loose all failsafe features ...i know they are supposed to have failsafes in them ...but they dont seem to work without the optidrive ...both my 2.4 do that

Macguyver, how do you reprogram the optidrive?:)

its on page 13 of the manual if you have it ....if not , heres how to do it ........

make sure your throttle trim is centered .......turn rx and tx on ......with the throttle to neutral , press and hold the ''set '' button on the optidrive until the LED flashes green twice ..and release ..( you are in programing mode).

pull the trigger to full throttle ..hold it there until the optidrive flashes 3 times ....

release the trigger to neutral ...the optidrive LED should turn solid green ...and thats it .....

you have to reprogram it each time you make changes to the throttle settings .....

if you dont have the manual ...try to find it online ....it has a bit more details in it ....but thats how to program it ;)
