Yes! We're getting closer. I had to raise the idle and lean the low needle out almost all the way for it to be happy.

Still doesn't seem like it's shifting or wanting to shift. I'm definitely nervous about over revving it again.

I was just going through old 3.3 threads, I want to do this thing up now LOL
Camme across this video, saving it here for later :)

Just like religion or politics, the engine beak-in procedure has many true believers harboring a variety of "personal truths".
I use a stepped approach and personally, I'm shooting for 200 F during my 6th tank, but I can't find fault with 220.

I also use a stepped approach to the trigger, starting with a full tank at idle and no resistance to the wheels.
When I put the truck on the ground, it only gets short blips on the throttle for this next tank. Just enough throttle to keep it running.
Tanks that follow up get slightly more trigger time (and higher target temps), until by the 8th tank, it's basically WOT and driven hard.

Every engine is different, and given the impact of gearing and shift settings, I can't say exactly which tank in the break-in process that I would expect to start to hear a truck shift, but I'm generally not envisioning giving the engine enough sustained juice (thus operating temp / rpms) to expect it to initiate shifts until about the 6th-7th tank.

Thanks so much for the information!

I am completely new to running Nitro. I wasn't really aiming for a certain temp, only to ensure I had it above 210-215f which I think is in the TRX manual.

I was able to get tanks 6-7-8 done. I have been doing everything by feel and ear.

I need to spend more time tuning but I am really considering springing for the OS carb.

Here's my run this morning;

+1 for the OS Carb, I know you've already sank a lot into this engine, but it made a night and day difference for me, it was a whole new engine. It was from a cranky, unreliable & hot idle, to a smooth purr with instant throttle response. I can only imagine that the Traxxas carb produces a slobbery spittle of fuel-air mix at idle, while the OS Carb produces a fine mist.

Here it is throwing around an HSP Bigfoot:

Man, I hope you rotated the tires after a run like that! That was crazy!

Similar results to the video I posted in post #41.

I really want that low - mid tuning ability that the OS offers. Seeing the throttle response is just envious.

I have spent a couple hundred, for sure. And I will have to park it for a bit as a comp was just recently announced so I'll be shifting my focus (and budget) back to crawling.

This has been cool though; a huge confidence boost for me with Nitro. Once I got it running it started the performance part of me looking at hop ups. I was digging through servos, online looking at engines from RC Renew and the OS 21. Or hop ups like the 11k carb.

That OS 21 is like $550 locally though 😬🫠

As difficult as I found this at times, I learned a ton (like TRX Con Rods are consumables).
It was also nice to be reminded why the Revo has lasted through so many purges. Having bought and sold a ton of RC's over the years, there is something kind of perfect about this truck.

Update:

Got the truck on the bench. The only damage from the day is a few shattered A Arms. Totally expected with this guy.. which is why I have been sitting on these:

Just gotta clean 'er up before I get to work!
