Is the longer travel great for bashing or really needed?

Not so much its really for crawling slow speeds. IMP. It's going to make the shocks softer then the stock rockers.

I know some guys swore by the LT for big air, but I never used them. I always went with P2's, heavy oil/heavy springs. I ran VDK on my e-revo for a long time, but after having the pistons snap in half multiple times, I went back to standard pistons and not so thick oil. Doesn't land as nice, but it will land more times without ending my day due to a busted shock.

I still run vdk in my nitro's though. They don't go as fast, weigh as much or jump as high, so the vdk holds up in those ok with relatively thick oil/stiff springs while remaining pretty plush for the small stuff and taking the sting out of the bigger jumps.
