well today i was screaming around the backyard track with my revo will after i went up and over the berm i went to throw it in reverse adn walah all sorts of screaching and howling from the tranny. well it turns out the reverse primary gear is now 100% tooth free and i was wondering anyone else have this problem and any idea wat caused it??i also well looking up the part number realized traxxas only sells one with a steel tooth ring was the reverse gear a problem in the 2.5r??

Lose the reverse all together... go with the forward only kit if you are a basher, center diff if you are a racer. I have found that the revo transmission is tough once the reverse is removed.

you can thank that wonderful optidrive for saving your reverse gear.

Yeah, a lot of guys had that problem with revo reverse after a gallon or so.

In my mind, reverse is almost a novelty on most RTR rigs. Your typically better off doing away with it and installing a FOC. Much less prone to failure, less servo draining on the battery, no more optidrive... just a better more durable setup all around.

yeah but reverse is very nice to have

That may be... but it was never nice enough for a bashing day to be ended early because it failed. At least not for me. I only used reverse 3 or 4 times before it failed on me. And of course, I had a whole bashing day ahead of me and that happened during my second tank of fuel for the day.

yeah well mine lasted all day and the new reverse gear that traxxas sells is metal like the one that was installed on the 3.3 version

would this help i really like my reverse??

I have reverse in my 2.5 maxx for years. It is nice to have.Revo and tmaxx 3.3 reverse lasted only about a dozen times before it was gone with some of the tranny taken with it.I miss the reverse but since the FOC no more problems.

yeah idk I'm gonna call the local race track and see wat they have to say they have the answers to all revo questions lol

The subject here is not the optidrive...

Come on guys, maybe the optidrive can be a problem but the guy didnt ask for you to tell him to remove it. He only wanted to know if the reverse gear had a problem. To answer his question, not really. Most of what I have found leans toward people relying on the optidrive to save it and failed. If you mind your driving and rely on your own instinct not to switch to reverse unless the truck is stopped it seems to be a fairly effective system. It is a little annoying at times thinking the truck is moving when its actually stopped but its always handy to be able to back the thing up instead of chasing it down from 50 yards away when its stuck against a tree. My advise is to fix the reverse gear with the upgraded gearing from traxxas and not rely on the optidrive to fix your errors, its there as a precaution not as a continuously working system. Just one man's opinion.

thank you thats what i was really thinking i think it was my fault that the reverse went out and was just wondering if the 2.5r was notorious for throwing that gear

she loves it but we hate it when she makes a mess
