Hey everyone. I am new to the R/C hobby and am ready to buy either an SS or the .25 truck. I have 2 questions: which is a better way to go? (assembling the SS does not bother me, I build full size race cars). My second question: Is having reverse worth the extra expense? Thanks for any info -- this site is great!

I'd say go with the SS build it yourself kit, since this way you become familiar with all the parts and the entire vehicle...........I guess the reverse mod is u to the individual as to weather or not it's worth the expense, would you like to be able to back out of a tight spot or would you rather have to run to the truck and rescue it?

hell ya, go for it i got mine, but have not installed it yet :sneaky:

I'd say get it. I have it and it's definately alot of fun. I put a Picco 26 in my Savage and it will do wheelies in reverse (though not recommended). If you plan on racing at a local track, you won't be allowed to use it in a race, so you'd be tugging an extra servo and the rev mod and loosing some power to weight ratio. But for just playing around and bashing, you can't go wrong with reverse.

And welcome to RCNT.

Welcome to RCNT first and foremost. I would personally tell you that reverse is really nice to have however if the type of bashing you are doing is like BMX tracks and jumping and all that it will just add weight and make your jumps all off kilter later.

Reverse is great to have especially when u get stuck and u our a few feet away. I would build the kit so I get to know my truck inside and out.

I'd been racing RC for sometime where Reverse isn't allowed. So, when I got my Savage its was no big deal.

Learn to drive well and you'll find there are very few occassions that you'll need reverse. Since I've owned my Savage (about 3 months), there were maybe 2 occassions where I would have used reverse. Check the Savage Central message board for more reviews of the reverse module.

As far as SS vs RTR. Somewhat similar to you, I work on Road Racing Motorcycles. So, putting together the truck would have been no big deal. But I opted for the RTR cause I wanted to be up and running like now.

Personally, I think if you to pick your own radio and plan on putting upgrades on immediately, I'd do the SS (although I believe the SS uses a 2 shoe clutch and the RTR is a 3 shoe).

If you want to get up and running now, the RTR is good.

Either way the Savage is awesome. Very durable and lots of fun...

get reverse if your new to the hobby and itll let you do some col things such as a flip while in reverse. i did it off this huge jump in my freinds yard and now he wants to get reverse alos cause we play tag with our trucks and its a good way to avoid getting hit
