Just replaced connecting rod and reinstalled engine. Set on starter box to test run engine and the drive wheels turn in reverse direction ?? What could cause this ??

If your starter box is turning backwards reverse the wires on the battery.:hehe:

starter box is turning the same way it always has from the beginning and has started car with no problems in the past. could it be the gear reduction unit ???

Yes if something was assembled backwards dont know everything you had apart.

I hope I don't get reamed out for this by anyone that disagrees , but sometimes the phenomena of a motor starting and running backwards just happens ,with no explanation . it happened to me plenty with good engines ,and I just stop running it ,and try starting it again . make sure before you start it you turned the flywheel so the piston is at the bottom dead center .it may even happen again ,but try a couple times and it will eventually go forward ,provided that you didn't really do something wrong re assembling your engine. you've probably figured it out by now if you tried starting it again . I hope you trust the advice it happened to me before a few times. of course I panicked ,but someone in the pits told me the same advice , and not to worry about it .

wrong glow plug can cause that.

And many many others things can also, what have you CHANGED or taken apart since it last ran forwards?

Do you have reverse in your truck ?

You sure your placing the vehicle on the starter box in the right direction?

I've had engines start up backwards, but with a pullstart that had a slippy OWB. Would imagine it would be harder for it to try and fire backwards if your spinning it in the right direction via a starter wheel since it really forces it to continue in the right direction.
