2revo1maxx, if the guy is using a 3 channel radio, the 3rd channel can be set to put that channel is in an "on" or "off" mode so that the servo doesn't burn up.

I guess it depends on the radio. If it's a trx am radio he'll need to have the linkage spring loaded or else adjusted perfectly. Otherwise it either won't engage the lock fully... or else it WILL engage the lock fully but the servo will be trying to go a little farther to it's end point. If he has a nice radio he can just set the end points and hope they stay put. I would still go with the spring no matter what. It's the same exact concept as the reverse linkage on a revo or maxx.

So after poking around the Traxxas site, looking at exploded views and such, I found downloadable stock parts lists for all the trucks, this will help my project to no end!

Everyones quick responses and insightful advise has helped an amazing amount as well... Keep it comin!

While surfing the forums I have seen people talking about an upgrade to the batt pack on the truck (or possibly adding another pack?) to give better control and response to the servo's, can someone shed some light on what exactly this upgrade is and what the advantages are?

Thank you all :D

in some cases, it means dumping the 4 AA holder and fitting a 6 volt battery pack, in other cases it means changing a 1200mah battery pack for a higher "mah" one, or even a LiPo pack.

does that help clear matters up for you ??
