i am replacing my spur gear and was woundering how much i should tighten the nut that holds it in place. or does it matter because of the spring that is in between them. also, i lost one of the little red inserts for the spur gear. can i just put it on with one missing, or should i evan them out or take all of them out. thanks.

Tightening determines the slip on your slipper. I tighten it fully down, then back it off about a half turn.
You MUST have the red plugs in there. How many were there, 6 or 12?
I seem to remember my stock setup was 6, and when I changed it I went to 12. You can get away with one missing, but it will be slightly out of balance. Not really anything noticable, but I would recommend replacing it soon.

That depends... how many are there. The full 12 (minus 1) or 6 (minus 1)? You should be fine either way for awhile as long as it's not a 21 maxx or anything.

As for the nut, if it's a maxx with a 2.5 or similar engine, tighten it down fully until the spring is completely compressed, then back the nut off 1/4 turn. In most cases, that's pretty good.

alright thanks guys, o and yeah, it was a stock setup so there was only 6 plugs. i guess that i'll go and search my garage floor. i am almost positive that i am not going to have any luck though. but yeah thanks

Don't fret over 1 slipper peg. When you do go to replace it get 12 you will have a more positive engagment and more power to the wheels.. It might also save on heat.

That nut is for the slipper clutch. It's made to absorb shock. So if your in the air and all wheels are spinning full throttle, and then they get traction, the spur gear/clutch slips instead of breaking the tranny, driveline, or loosing another spur.

I went with a hardened spur gear from RRP. I haven;t had to replace it in about 1 year of hard use.
