I'd stay away because of a lack of OEM and aftermarket parts. Try looking for something from a major brand such as Losi, Traxxas, Associated or HPI.

I've never owned a RedCat, but had an Exceed (same OEM) and that thing broke if you looked at it the wrong way. You'll need lots of parts, too.

I've been in this hobby for 20+ years, and I've owned lots of rc. I currently own the Redcat 1/5 scale XT. The bearings are terrible, but overall a great truck. I called for parts and service haven't been let down yet. This post is a few years old so maybe they've cleaned up they're act since then. I have an avalanche xtr on order. Ill put through its paces and report back.
