no, I'm a cop cuz I'm an butthead. I'm not an butthead because I'm a cop. :) Kinda like which came first, the butthead or the badge? In this case, it wasn't the badge.

I'm not sure what quality redcat is, but my buddy plans on getting the vortex. He doesn't really have many options because his kind of on lock down with his wife.. shes only letting him spend 200. he was looking at used rc's and hasnt found anything he likes and ultimately is leaning towards the the vortex..

All in all... i wouldnt recommend it.. but it looks like its alright speed.. if he ever has engine troubles i would tell him to get an aftermarket motor and go have fun. I'm not sure if they are known to have tranny issues.. but as long as there is no tranny issues... I'm sold because other wise if anything else breaks it no problem at all..

I recently bought a redcat shockwave for my first nitro. I figured since I'm new to the hobby I would start with something cheap for trial and error reasons. I'm glad I started with it because there are a few things I messed up on from the start and I would rather screw up with a cheap one. Redcats are def pretty weak cause I had mine off road for five mins and something broke on the rear dif. Its easy to get replacement parts from the website but I have a feeling things will be breaking a lot. I'm gonna be buying something good now that I'm comfortable with them. Its not a bad thing to start with a redcat though.

Man I've only been on this forum for like 10 minutes and already over and over it's haters bashing Redcats. Specifically about lack of parts and support. You people should take the blinders off. Just because there isn't a dealer in your area doesn't mean there are no dealers. There are 3 Redcat dealers in my area and 1 of them is 10 minutes from my house.

Just because you live in the sticks with no options out side of Traxxas and HPI doesn't mean we're all have stuck with over priced junk with an expensive name!

Whats wrong with living in the Sticks?

I have hobby shops in TN and in NC that i go to 5 total and NONE of them sell RedCRap.......ahem...sorry:p: , Redcat Parts, And i don't think they ever will.

For those guy's looking to get into nitro (or RC's), that are on a budget, wife has them on lock down, or what ever other excuse can be given to be cheap, do what I did. Have a little patience, save, plan, and get a quality car/truck/flesh light, or whatever tickles your fancy used. New trucks cost money, but you can find good deals on forums, craigslist, etc. I got my Revo off of Craiglist for $150. Runs great, had RPM Front arms, I have not complaints and saved a butt load of money.

Can we EVER get past this never ending and almost pointless debate? Run what ya want and have a good time!

Ten minutes in and already pissing people off. Not too bright. Don't start a pissing contest cause not only will you lose but we will all have a VERY good time at your expense.

I think I found the douche bag that started this threads tube video about this debate....

honestly comparing those 2 companies is insulting.... traxxas vs redcat ?

Heres the thing.. red cat is a starting company.. they still have aways to go before they are on the name brand level.

Traxxas ill admit their plastic parts do seem to be crappy... and i break the arms alot. and I've notived lots of traxxas guys go RPM because of that. I've actually never owned and electric traxxas.. but iv owned traxxas tmaxx 2.5 and jato 3.3 both of witch are great trucks.. they are fun.. not that tough.. but fun.... and the engines in my opinion seem to be good quality.

But ill say.. if i could have the choice between a redcat SC and a traxxas SC slayer ... i would choose slayer with out hesitation ...

Took me about 35 seconds to figure out that the guy that made that video is a dumb ass. First off hes comparing a brushed stadium truck to a brushless buggy. Hes comparing apples to oranges. I mean common the guy didn't even break in his stock brushed motor. That right there ought to tell you hes has little to no experience with RCs and therefore isn't even qualified in my opinion to make a review video. I couldnt tell for sure cuz its kind of blurry but I don't believe his second motor was even a Traxxas motor or any other brand I could easily recognize which means hes probably got some cheap crappy motor in there and the reason its probably dying out on him is because he didn't match up his replacement with the ESC and Batteries he is using. If his gearing is off for that motor it could be overheating and maybe that's why its dying out on him. whatever the case may be I think he personally doesn't have the experience level or even the common since to know you can't make a review video based on two different types of RCs.

Secondly virtually all RCs regardless of brand or qualities are gonna need a couple of hop up parts. In the case of the Rustler you have to replace the stock arms and caster blocks with RPM parts. Just a fact of life. Just about every kit with the possible exception of maybe Mugens needs one or two hop ups. Even my 700 dollar XXL needs RPM arms and a steering servo upgrade right from the start.

As for the red cat their aluminum parts are cheap junk so don't be fooled by the bling and so are their Lipos. If you took a red cat lipo and put it up up against a gensacearespammers or even a Zippy I'm willing to bet they wouldn't perform as well let alone if you put it up against a name brand lipo of any kind. There is a reason these kits are so inexpensive folks.

I own a nitro Rustler and a VXL Rustler and I can tell you that there are better stadium trucks out there but over all the Rustler is a pretty decent truck for the money. Red Cat? buy that crap if you want but I wouldn't have one up my ass even if I had room for a freight train.

That being said if you still want to buy a product that is obviously controversial then knock your socks off, hope it works out for you. My suggestion would be to save your money for awhile and buy something that everyone agrees is a good or decent brand. I'm done arguing about this topic. Ask your local hobby store repairman/pro or your local track pro what they think of Red Cat. I'll guarantee you they'll say the same thing as most of the people in this thread. its junk.
