I was hoping to get some recommendations for some solid micros for my 8yr. old son and 15yr. old step-son. They live in Hawaii with their mom but will be up here in Seattle visiting for Xmas. I wanted to get them their own mini's but am concerned about longevity, cost, etc., especially since I won't be on hand when stuff breaks.

So, what are a pair of mini's that would be great fits for their ages?

i think the mini-t is fun and cheap and tons of hop ups

For durability and versatility, the Associated 18T or 18B are solid choices.

I assume these are all electrics? While the 15yr old might enjoy/handle nitro, the 8yr old definitely can't.

i would say get them a xl5 rustler there not that much and a little bigger then the minis

I think the RC18t would be a perfect choice. Get em some foams for inside running and off they go :D

the rc18's are the king. 4wd, solid, and very customizable. with a bs setup they are wicked!

Agreed - I had an RC18B with a brushless setup.. Way too wild for indoor running, but still a lot of fun. The stock setup is quicker than you'd expect.

the rc 18 series are ok. I haven't had alot of luck with them and they needed mip super diffs and cvd's to really be able to rock. The mini lst looks beefier imo and the mlst2 supposedly is pretty strong. I will find out in a few weeks just how strong.

Often overlooked is the wheely king. Its 1/12 scale but would be a ton of fun for kids.

Ome more thing is that i'm not sure a kid could repair a ball diff. It takes patience and steady hands. The wheely king would be more kid friendly as far as maintenance goes.

get a minizilla, VERY FAST, VERY POWERFUL, and is a blast to drive, there is also a miniturbo you can buy from hobbytron.com it is the same car with cheaper electronics but i would stay away from that i bought one thinking i was getting a good deal and then it lit on fire but its a great car now that i replaced the electronics.

RC18B in my opinion everything i have heard about it is that it is very reliable and just a fun little car. If I had the money i would defiantly have one of my own.

So I picked up the 1/36 Mini-T. Wife insisted I keep it under $100 and got the Mini-T for $70 at the LHS. I know I could have probably found an RC18 for around $100 online but when possible I try to buy/order through my LHS. They've thrown me discounts and been good to me.

Really hope he likes it!
