something is making grinding on my truck. it is mainly when i get hard on the gas. it does it all the time in reverse and when i hit it forward from reverse. i think it sounds like it is comming from the front but the 4-wheel drive is still working. is it a stripped gear or what?

I don't have an 18t, but I'll fathom a few guesses. First, it appears the 18 doesn't have a slipper clutch. So if it's grinding, my guesses would be either the pinion/spur mesh or the front or rear differential. You may have to take a few minutes to pull the diffs and open them to see if a tooth sheared of or anything like that. It's a pretty basic drivetrain so that seems like the most likely candidate.

alright, i already look at the rear diff, and the spur, so it has to be the front diff then. thanks for the help and i'll get back to you and let you know if i fix it.

Ya mine does that too when i try to do wheelies. I think it is like warning noise. No damage on mine.

all the gears are fine and have no damage. the car doesen't start grinding (almost sounds like a clicking) until after half throttle or a little more. the performance is the same as new but this noise is making me worry.

The grinding is because there is too much slop in the diffs...both the front and rear. There is too much play in the diffs so they slip. They need to be shimmed with some 8X12 shims. If you take a look at the inside of the diffs you'll see what I'm talking about. Shim them and they wont grind anymore.

I will shim it up. Also anyone know what weright oil to use in the diffs? Maybe 3k.

what do you mean by shim them up. what do i have to do?

You just have to put a shim on the diff cup. A shim is like a big thin washer not hard. Also got a link to the shims too?
