Anyone else use the RC Screwz Stainless Screw kit on their Savage?

For my SS build I decided to replace all the stock screws. I must say the stainless screws are a vast improvement over the stock supplied screws. No phillips heads to mess with. Plus they are all nice an shiny. The only drawback I can see is that magnetic drivers will not work.

Thanks for the info. I have not installed any yet so I can't comment on that. My losi wrench's seem to fit snugly in the screw heads. I should get started on building this weekend so I will know in short order how they work out.

I did reasearch their screws and could not find any bad reviews. Never saw your post untill you linked it for me. We shall see.

I only say this about stainless steel screws: They are soft.

Do not be surprised if you shear the heads off any of the screws upon any hard headon collisions. Yes, they are shiney. Yes, they might look good. BUT those stock screws aren't stainless for a reason.

I got a bad feeling about these screws.

I have done further research on this forum and others and it seems they are prone to stripping like Ed posted. Funny since when I did a google search, all I good find is good reviews. Now when I go back and read them, the reviews are only for the installation and looks. Nothing about actual performance and removing them.

I will check them out to see for myself. But it looks like I have been screwed.

Live and learn.

hey try Hexscrews.com i heard good things about them iand i am planning on buyimng a set this weekend for my NMT.

I am looking into a set from Hexscrews right now. Looks like they may be the way to go.

Off to ebay for the RC Screwz set.

Should have researched a little more on the RC Screwz set.

Thanks Ed and Sky.

If this was my thread I'd post a survey.

I yanked the link to RC Screwz from my site because of Ed's bad experience.

I still love Tacoma Screw. (The name, the store, the quality, the location, everything.)

Tell me if I should add HexScrews.

Tell me if you've had a better experience with RC Screwz that warrants their link added back to my site.

Yeah I vote thumbs down from RC screwz really. The heads do strip really easily. I bought them on a whim because they got a good review in RCCA. BOY have I learned not to trust reviews in RCCA. Have you ever noticed that every review they do is good. I am pretty sure it's mostly all money driven.

I am a regular on Savage-Central and also sell a screw kit for the Savage. Here is a link if you want to check it out.

I have excellent feedback and guarantee the kits. They are Grade 8 alloy and have hex heads. Specific for the Savage and comes with a nice case and screw/nut count of 184.

dubro

What about Dubro allen screws? I love them, and they never seem to strip out. I also use alot of purple bolts and screws and nuts from rc-one I think is the name. But I think racers edge also has purple allen screws and other colours. I've got my savage all decked out with all aluminum parts and screws to match, and seem very tough.

MY FAVORITE TRICK to recrute people to buy the savage is to run my SAVAGE up a big oak tree about 6' and it usually does a back flip off of it. Big oak trees usually have the curved bottoms and w/ the BIG JOES 40 SERIES it rides smoothly all the way up. Sometimes I can get almoast to about 8' and that gets really freaky depending on the landing. Just hit the tree at about 1/2 to 3/4 throttle and hang on.:marshall: :wasted: This stunt really wows spectators, and I have not seen any T-maxx owners try this in front of a crowd yet. The DUBRO screws that hold the a-arm pins in on the front and rear bumbers almoast never bend, but the stock screws that come with the aluminum bumbers always snap off flush ( those little chromed silver phillips headed screws ). Dubro is usually found at your LHS and is intended for PLANES.

The RCScrewz sound lovely....eerrr not..lol. THey advertise all over the place. THe fact that Stainless screwz are probably not the best screw application to being with aside. How hard could it be to screw up screwz.

I am one of the many who have purchased a screw kit from Glenn for my Savage. Right now I am currenly in the process of coverting my Savage to all hex screws. I have been taking my time because I am taking pictures along the way to help others out who decided to covert their Savage to hex head screws. The kit is top notch. Glenn is a great guy to do business with.

This is what is included in my kit:

Total piece count is 184. The first number after the size is what is required to replace your stock screws. The second number is extras.

Allen Head Screws

3X8 = 2 + 1 (3). Muffler spring mount and crankshaft tip.
3X8 Flat Head = 4 + 1 (5). Bottom plate screws
3X10 = 30 + 5 (35). Tranny, lights, tvp, fuel tank posts, servos
3X12 = 4. Motor to motor mount
3X12 Flat Head = 14 + 4 (18 ). Differentials, Handle to tvp
3X15 = 18 + 4 (22). Bumpers, steering link, shock mounts (bottom)
3X18 Flat Head = 10 + 2 (12). Bumpers, turnbuckles
3X20 = 2. Upper arms, turnbuckles
4X8 = 4. Motor mount to plate
