None of the 7.3's never had a solid trans, the e4od and 4r100. The 6.0l's trans, 5r110, were alot better, but still like any trans, with a heavy chip/tuner and a lead foot, they drop out fast too, but their shifting is awesome. The 6.4's do really well though imo, they can handle a 275 tune with now and then bashings. But its like any of the stock trans, it can't hold up to non stop abuse.... better than that silly allison in the dmax that everyone feels cool about because its an "allison" lol and alittle better than the newer dodges but still isnt even close to bullet proof.

I love the allison, My dad has never had a problem with it in etheir truck he has. He has an 07 classic duramax with 164,000 miles and an 08 with 54,000. Never had a problem with allison.

Because thats the ultimate goal is to get a duramax because I love them, but the cummins gets what needs to be done done.

Friend of mine has a 7.3 with a small tune in it. ZERO trans problems. Motor problems, no trans problems. Call an allison silly but anybody thats gonna tune a diesel to make serious power, which is easy, knows you need a trans. When i had my duramax and someone rolled on me whether it be chevy ford or dodge, my only question was you have a built trans? answer was always no and i always beat the poop out of them... you're not running a 275 tune without a built transmission...if you are i call you...grandma.. I beat the crap out of mine at the strip, pulling trailers and it finally let me down after 40k, if you think you can do that on a stock trans.....well, you're wrong. I had a 13 foot enclosed trailer at 127 and out ran a honda, you're not doing that on a stock trans no matter what the make.

i know the allison is a solid trans just like all the other ones, they are designed for the manufacturers ratings. when you double that with a 750 dollar tune, they are not gonna last. period.

You kinda said the same thing as me but with a little bit of attitude for some reason. No stock trans can hold a big tune for long if you beat it, never said any could. I said the 6.4's do well on "now and then" beatings, thats it. Reality is they all suck and cost so damn much for a nice built one that its crazy! But, worth it for sure when you can lay down 4-5 second 0-60's in a 7500lbs rig! Awesome isnt even the proper word for it.

My goal is for a dmax also, some day. I would love to stick with fords, I prefer the looks and sound BUT they can't touch the mileage of the newer cummins or the dmax's. Getting 23+ miles a gallon while being able to do rolling burnouts at 25 is insane.

no attitude intended. my bad.. you just can't even occasionally beat on 1 when you double the rwhp and tq. they will let you down. my truck did have over 70k on it when i bought it and when i went with just a teeny bit bigger tune and got on it, i smelled tranny fluid.

yeah, 22 mpg at 500 rwhp and 1000 rwftlbs was easy especially with the big tune. what people dont realize is, that high hp gives good numbers but with high hp you can't keep your foot out of it which brings it down. my 6980 lb truck got 22 mpg when i kept the rpms under 2k.

my 0-60 was about 4.5s spinning all 4 :) best 60 ft was 1.80
