Can anyone recommend a Radio Controller, servo, and speed control? I will be getting the Unassembled Savage Kit. Or better yet does anyone know of other unassembled kits? But back to the real question.

I don't plan on racing, just some backyard bashin. I think I would just a need a good quality middle of the road controller. Can anyone help?

Airtronics MX-3 is a descent radio comes with a reciever.
Hitec 645MG for steering.
Hitec 625 for throttle.

Those would be a good starting point. If you had a price range then we could be a little more specific.

Well that was one of my problems there is very big range. I guess I would say I don't want to go over $250. I certainly want quality. I've just been out of it for so long all of the info and choices is a little overwhelming.

ok for the savage you dont need a speed control... You dont need a speed control for any nitro.

True, you won't need a speed control. Look at vbgagnon's post, that should be a great set-up for your savage. If you want you could even go for a Hitec HS-5645MG servo for more power and speed.

I was in the same boat as you Plethein, used to run electric buggies about 13 years ago and just came back into the hobby recently with a Savage SS. I went with a JR XR3i

http://www.horizonhobby.com/Shop/ByCategory/Product/Default.aspx?ProdID=JRP334275

and added a Hitec 645 for steering. The JR has just about any kind adjustment you will need and more if you are just bashing the truck like me. If you can spring for it, pick up a NiMH hump pack for the receiver.High torque steering servos eat up alot of juice. Total price for everythign including the hump pack was $195 at my LHS.

Good luck

I have the XS3, and would say bit the bullit, and get an M8, because you will later anyway.

I have the JR XS3 and I love mine. The new XS3 Pro looks even nicer, and holds an extra 4 more cars in the memory for a total of 10. It is a great radio and is in your price range.

Hello All

What do you think about ''Futaba Mega Tech 3PK Black Version PCM75MHz''?

its a very nice radio. however i have heard that you may have trouble if you need to send it in for warrenty service. i dont belive the black version is supposed to be sold in the states and thats the reason for this problem. if your really interested in the radio, i would call up futaba and ask if they will service it. I've been eyeing that one up myself actually, but since I'm not in a position to buy it yet, i havent looked into the matter any further.

hello again

sorry for my alot of questions.I want to buy new radio control unit so that I try to find right one.

I am gonna ask you another two models
1)KO EX-11 PRESTO FM Proportional System - 75Mhz
2)Airtronics MX-3S 3-Channel FM/75 Mhz

thanks alot for your help

I got this for my Savage SS. I like to race and bash and this suits me for both. It has a lot of features, most I don't use, and the range is great. The servo this one comes with has 124oz. of torque which is great for the steering. Your not looking to spend over $250? This one saves you $100 to spend on other upgrades.

I have the same one as Buncrana. Its a very good radio for the price.

I have been looking to go Synth and looked at the JR XS3 Pro. My question is, I am on my 7th nitro R/C and sometime down the road I would like to switch them all to synth to work with the JR XS3 Pro but what synth receivers would be compatable to work with this radio?
Right now I am using a Futaba 3PM-FM and have two sets of crystals for back up racing. Love my Futaba but wanted to explore my options if I switched to a synth radio. My friend uses an Airtronics synthesized radio for all his stuff and I noticed that everyone of his R/C's glitch more or as much as a standard AM stock radio so from after seeing his experience with Airtronics makes me want to steer away from that brand.
I should just save my money and buy a couple more different crystal channels. It will save me more on the long run if I change over seven R/C receivers.

Well, there is a synth version of the 3pm now. It comes with a non-synth receiver and costs only a little more than the regular 3pm. I guess it's a good radio for someone in your situation since you won't need to change receivers.

Well I have some decisions to make. I want to thank all of you for all your suggestions and knowledge I really appreciate it. Thanks....
