I am not the greatest when it comes to painting but I really wish I had an airbrush.

This is my HPI Subaru body that I got for free at the HPI Challenge. I painted it with rattle cans, I used Metallic Burgandy with a silver backing to let the color really stand out. I used Sprint White on the Parma masked flames. On all my nitros with vent cut outs, I clean up the cut out holes with black vaccum tubing split open. This adds a nice clean touch to my bodies. I also added two holes to be able to tune the high and low side needles when the body is on.

This is actually my second rattle can paint job done on a touring car. What do you all think of it?

Thanks!!

A shot of my first rattle can paint job on a touring car using XXX Main paint mask along with Sprint White and Racing Red for colors. The Supra is what I actually had for the HPI Challenge so the photo shows it a bit scratched up.

Those are some nice lids! Well Done!!. Now what are you using as gaurds around the cut out windows? I like that idea!

jon2 - Those guards around the cut out holes in the window are just vacuum tubing found at your local auto parts store. All I did was split it open and then slide it around the opening for a tight fit. It has not come off on any of my trucks during bashing so I use it as well on my touring cars.

kwong - that WRX spoiler was not easy for me to paint correctly since it is two pieces. It is preferred to peel off the protective coating on the spoiler and paint from that side but I had no luck doing it that way so I just painted both sides and shot it with a clear coat afterwards.

Very nice job on both lids. I also like the idea of putting tubing around the cut-outs. I will be giving it a try.

thanks for the compliments on my paint jobs. I think I am gonna invest in a airbrush and compressor kit to fool around with and learn some painting tricks.

That vacuum tubing idea just popped into my head one day as I was trying to prepare a truck lid for the HPI Challenge. I was thinking of a way to clean up the cut out vent holes and came up with the vacuum tube idea. It actually works great on my touring car lids as I tend to pick up my cars a few times by using the cut out vent holes. With the vacuum tubing around the cut out holes, it feels more comfortable to grab than grabbing a possibly sharp edged cut out vent hole. I thought about using colored fuel line, but the fuel lines seemed more flimsy than the automotive style vacuum tubing even though they tend to be the same thickness and inside diameter. I just try to always measure out my front windshield vent hole to the standard 2 inches.

on road cars are pretty cool the bodies last longer i can trash a savage body in maybe 2 sessions nice job!!

yeah for sure.......I have definitely destroyed several truck bodies already on my Savage and TMaxx.

The litmus test for a NICE body is not necessarily determined by how many colors, what kind of effect, how many transitions in the fade. A nice clean simple well laid out design will win every time in my book.
good job
