Why did nitro rally cars never become really popular? they would seem to be a nice alternative to a dedicated "on-road" car, due to being able to be run in less than ideal environments.
I just ask because I am bidding on an HPI Nitro Rally on ebay. Basically, it's a small tire, low CG nitro mt. I like the concept of that type of car.

I have one never use it. Just rebuilt the engine and now it sits. They are fun to drive but they dont jump very well.

I'm with you 1500. I wish off-road rally was more popular than it is. Don't get me wrong, I like off-road vehicles (buggies) but when it comes to organized racing the tracks seem to always have jumps and moguls and that sort of stuff, which doesn't really interest me. I would rather race on an off-road track that kept the car on the ground 99.98% of the time.

Something I've noticed since I got into the Rc scene is that stuff gets really popular in spurts. For a while on-road is the top thing, then its Mt's, Then crawlers, and so on. So my guess is that they will get there turn. (Unless its just me that feels this way..who knows..lol)

yeah, I agree 4U. Seems like Truggies (now known as 1/8 scale stadium trucks) are the new craze.

BTW, who get's to decide to up and change terminology for an entire genre of vehicles anyways...? What was wrong with "truggy"...

it's weird, really. 2wd electric buggy has always had a following. and stadium trucks have had one for a long time (since it was an offshoot of the original mt's where people started putting smaller tires on their blackfoots, or bigger tires on their rc10's with truck bodies and all but killed the monster truck class).
I like the idea of a low slung rally car slinging around a tight course with gentle type jumps and narrow straights. now I just want one to mess around with.
