hello!,
i am thinking about getting different radio gear for my Revo 2.5R i was thinking maybe futaba or something like that. it would be great if it isint to much trouble if you knew of the exact name and or had a link to tower hobbies for it i will not need the reverse servo just throttle and steering dont think i need to say it but i would like to do the single servo mod and i would really really like long run times! thanks!!!

What are you looking to spend? Do you have more than one vehicle you want to control? Why are you upgrading?

just one vehicle up grading because i have compared my throttle and steering to a friends stock revo 2.5 and my servo speed isn't even half of what his is even when my battery is fully charged. . . in other words my servo speeds Suck and as for price i don't want to spend a ton but i know its not going to come cheap what would you suggest?

To say the least bro... Spektrum. You can run some decent servos on a DX2. Less headache on frequencies

If you are look for some torque an high speed, I would look into some Airtronics 94358 and 94359.

I would link it to you but my network connection is limited or low.

spektrum... hmm alighty!! ill definitely look into it thanks both of you!!!

oh and :hbd:happy bday jon!:hbd:

I just bought an Airtronics mx3 radio with its receiver for 70 bucks on ebay.

If your looking for long runtime check this out,

http://www.ballisticbatteries.com/Store_Detail.cfm?ID=140054&InfoID=200

You need a micro class receiver thus the mx3 's receiver worked out great. I haven gotten it yet but its in the mail.

as for the radio I like It much better then the stock and the price is right.

So for 120-130 you can get a much better radio and more then double your run time. I'm going to wait a bit for the single servo turning.

Heres the thing - If your runnin a stock Revo, with reverse setup you want to get a Spektrum DX3, not the DX2. If you have more than 2 trucks and you wish to use the same controller, You want a DX3, not a DX2. The DX2 has a 2 model memory. The DX3 has a 4 model memory AND it comes with 2 recievers. So for just under 200 you can get the DX3, use 2.4ghz frequency and have 2 receivers so you can setup yoru Revo and your 2nd favorite car with the same controller.

Thats the cheap way to a pretty good controller. Personally, I dont like the Feel of them... I've got an MX-3 which isnt' bad. Has a 5 model memory (if I remember correctly), but its only FM. FM is great - and tons better than AM, but your still fightin frequencies. If you can, get the MX-3S. Its synthesized... if your at a track and somebody else is on your frequency, you can change it instead of buying crystals or waiting to play.

As far as servos go, if you want to do a single-servo mod, your gonna need a high torque metal gear. You should be able to get away with the HiTech 5965. Its Digital servo, and its got a 168oz torque/0.18 @ 6volts. This servo can be had for around $40 to $50.

Hope this helped ya out!

Mike

I'm so confused i have no idea what he difference is i don't know what one to get... ugh.. thanks guys for trying to explain the best you could if it helps any i guess i don't have to do single servo and i don't race just bash with like 2 or 3 friends

Youi can do single servo with the stock radio and servo gear....it will just be hard on the steering servo. Perhaps what you should do right now is just replace the sterring serv with a High Torque metal gear serrvo and the proline single servo arm.

This is about a 70 upgrade and will address you orginal complaint...not enough power in your steering.

Next you can replace the throttle sevo with the same servo or a high speed version.

That way you dont have to get the high end radio gear right away and when you do you have the servos you need.

Here is a link to the servos at Fast Eddys and the proline you can get a tower.

I have the 985MG on my revo as a single servo and it works great. Turns fast and will whip the tires back and forth on carpet.

I use a 645MG for throttle/brake. I've found that running a higher torque/metal geared servo for T/B duties tends to last a lot longer than a high speed one. At least on MT's. Considering how much it takes to stop the big tires and heavy drive train, you need a servo that can deal with a lot of stress.

Also, I use the MX3 radio. I bought it new for $100. I might be looking into the spectrum though... I still get a bit of glitching in my area.

Oh, I'm a basher only as well. I try to buy things that last a long time with minimal maintenance.

Before asking my question let it be known that I am an RC newbie :)

I don't understand your choice of servo olds and I was hoping you could enlighten me. My understanding was that the stock Revo config was two 80oz servos which provides (by aggregation) 160oz of torque to control steering. The servo you listed has 178oz of torque which doesn't seem a big improvement (yet you clearly see a big improvement). Does the weight of one versus two servos really make such a big difference in the steering performance or am I missing the point totally here :)

Thanks

HW

The servo Olds listed is a little stronger and faster then the other 2 combined. And yes the weight of 1 servo vs 2 does make a difference.
Plus the Hitec servo is a much better quality then the stockers, so you dont need to worry about the servo breaking or stripping gears.

Tarant is on the right track with what most people think, including me.

The stock servo's do add up to be 160, but they are slow, noisy, not very accurate and just generally cheap. They get the job done, but that's about it. Also, with the two servo's, they fight each other most of the time. It's very difficult to get the linkage perfect between the two so they aren't fighting each other. Then they are so cheap, that the motor's and pot rates differ some which makes it impossible to not have them fighting each other.

The servo I posted isn't the best available by any means. But it will get the job done and it will do it's job well for a long time. It's a decent mid-priced servo that is well built, fast, strong and pretty accurate (goes where you want it and doesn't wander around). It's much faster than the stock 2055 servo.

Thanks for the education Olds :) I am new to nitro so I am sure I will trash a stock servor sooner or later and now I have a little more insight than just the "bare numbers" to go by when I do :)
